Dirtroadoutlaw's '86 M1009

Got the shifter mock-up & test done last night. I can finally take it apart for prep & paint. Got to get a few more nuts for jam-nuts for reassembly of the rods but I'm one step closer.

Awesome job !!!:waytogo:

How much did you have to clock your 205 and maybe I missed it but did you have floor issue's because of it?

I think my strong box is still a week or so out.....but now im even more excited seeing how well yours has turned out!!

Thanks, man.

I clocked until the f & r outputs were about the same. Floor issues are inevitable when clocking that high unless you have 3-plus inches of body lift. I hate body lifts in general but I lifted mine some time ago with 1" aluminum pucks when changing body mounts.

I have cut out a section of floor pan just to get everything in place and will trim a little more in the next week or so. A 2.25" rise in floor pan will be necessary in the area over the TC. There will also jave to be a sliver more clearance for the front driveshaft. You can get a look at what I've already done here:

Cool, thanks :waytogo:

I think I "may" be ok on the floor...if not ...no big deal. Mine is going in my K30 so I've got another 2" of frame hanging down....or 2" less of a raise needed for the t case.
I do like the simplicity yet strength of you crossmember...I may have to steal that design :D

K-30 = coolness.

The crossmember(s) has(have) no patents or copyrights. Lol.

Basically, the only reason that they're tied together is to prevent any racking. You never know what might happen under there when banging on it but the skid plate will help with that too. I don't remember the shear-strength of a 1/2" grade-8 bolt but it's a lot. There are 4 per flange so there shouldn't be an issue.

Also, I'll likely add some sort of anti-wrap job in there to save what's left of my rear springs and prevent all the catastrophic mishaps associated with that. That'd be on the left side.

Thanks for the kind feedback. I love it. I'm doing a lot of different things today in knocking out that punch-list.

You are the reason I finally dropped the coin and went for a strong box, so I've been following closely !! I've been "living on the edge" with my 205 hanging down unprotected and it has a few beauty marks to prove it, I've been planning a full on belly skid when I put it together and your crossmember set up should work well.

I built an anti wrap bar when I did my 64 swap , figured a big block and 42's may need it, and have been super happy with the results. ..I actually just built an identical one for newoldscottsdale77 (Nick) truck.

Cool beans!

You run a manual trans?

I'm doing another 14bff but using disc/drum setup from an '03 2500HD on the older housing. When I do the build on that, I'll truss it, shave it, and add provisions for the anti-wrap all while fighting the temptation to 4-link it. I don't want to open that can of worms... too expensive.

Auto in mine......just stock drivetrain 454/400/205 and a 60/14 gotta love K30's :D

and I know the "link temptation" .....I've been fighting it since I built this truck :doah: :haha:

I got a lot done yesterday. Speedo, b/u lights, & shifter lights got tied in. Other miscellaneous wiring buttoned up, remaining crossmember bolts put in, triple-stick blown apart & painted along with the linkages(started Friday), 465 cane stripped & painted, tire pressure adjusted.

Should get the speedo calibration done first off today then back to the shop for the reassembly of the triple-stick. After that, the focus will shift to getting the driveshafts modified then the floor pan can be finished up.

Also, I discovered that the bezel ring on the new speedo is different than the old one. AutoMeter changed the style of them so another 200 bones has to be spent of I want them to match.

Got the clutch master reservoir properly mounted too. That hose needs to be adjusted a bit bit it's gonna have to wait. Had to move my universal windshield washer pump because it occupied that real estate on the firewall. No biggie because the pump needs replacement anyway.

Saw your fb post.

Guess I dont get what the deal is with the gauge bezel?

The bezel is a different shape than the older one to the right. Chris has K5 OCD and it will bug him every time he looks at it.....LOL

Gotcha. Personally doesnt look bad. Get rid of the silver behind it and it would be much less noticeable.

I'll try to remember to clarify that later with close-up pics.

Didn't do a whole lot today. Degenerate neighbors making racket all night caused a lack of sleep. Cops won't do anything out in the county so I sicked the slum-lord on them. I did, however, break out the m&p Rem 870 and put 17 rifled slugs through their burn barrel. That's right behind their mobile home and it was 11am so I'm sure they were drooling on their pillows 'bout that time.

Anyway, I reassembled the triple-stick & got it put back in & wired the lamps up in them too. Put the freshly painted cane in the 465 to discover that it just grazes the doubler shifter and chipped the paint. I'm gonna put some big heat-shrink tube that I have on the cane & call that done. I didn't account for there being that significant a difference in the canes.

I apologize for the lack of pics. I really was on the delirious side fron lack of sleep. This is the only one for the day!

Yeah...for some that would be a solution....not for Chris....LOL. It would probably bug me too. In person, the silver around the bezel makes the dash pop good, IMO. Go big or go home!
