diy4x dash layout what do you think ? NEED OPINION post #66 please

sweet look man!! I saw someone else do a full removable panel on their dash and it looks like the way to go. Lots of room back there for messin around

new panel from kirt will prob get aluminum paint color i got left over from a project. i did the old panel in that color for test with gauges and how the high beam/turn lights will reflect off it. and its good.

link for the indicator lights man i wish i did. but i have no clue . thay were somthing my dad had for years. he did use to build fire trucks back in the 70's . and i have heard of them refered to as airplane panel lights also.

if someone has a link that would be super.

yeah, pretty sure I've seen that style of light in airplane cockpits... need to go check some of my aviation links.... see what i can dig up for the curious... I have a couple spots they would work well for with my interior lighting...

i did check and replacement bulb all over still so good to go.

would love a few more in diffrent colors . mabye a red or orange for check engine.

drilled the holes and mounted the switches/button today . all clear on the back side so no fitment problems.

now i got to get the headlight switch to check fitment.

then i can prep and paint the main dash panel. then the rest of the dash will get some paint not all.

got to get a hole saw to pop the air pressure gauge in next to the arb section. and need a angle ring to kick the gauge up a little to see it better.

i skipped the key switch for the arb master power as the switch i had was a little messed up on the inside. checked it with ohm meter and in the on position it was cutting in and out. so i dont need that . so i just used the old hole that was there from orignal dash layout to install this switch .

got the need to angle the air pressure gauge up a bit to see it better.

got 2 ways to do it . what way do you guys think will fit better for looks and blend better with the eye ?

option #1 autometer angle ring. pack of 3 and i need only 1. pic #4

option #2 use some scraps i have from old face plate and cut out sections to make a sweet little pod . . . pic's #1-3 cardboard prototype

the ring would match the other gauges, but doing a matching aluminum "pod" would be the bees knees...:waytogo:

I am really digging this setup...I usually don't get jealous, I am over this....:D

SOB Brett, that looks absolutely killer man.

I personally prefer the angle ring. I had my buddy make me a couple aluminum angle rings for my 5" gauges since the only ones I could find were from Rex's Marine and they weren't cheap compared to my buddy making them for me for free .99. When I get a chance i'm going to possibly have him make all of the 2 5/8" rings out of aluminum as well.

Brett, it looks like a airplane cockpit. Looks awesome. I have never done anything that badass ever. I know my opinion here is very low on the totem pole, but I like the second option. I was thinking you could make it like the lower part on the dash like the one under the steering collum brace that is there now. It would match great. Do the rivets also.

Anyways, it looks killer, like a dash in a race truck. Sweet!!

not rivits. allen drive button head bolts. :D

if i do it that way its going to be tig welded in place. as i have a few things that need to be added on . so i will do it all at 1 time. could add few bolts to make it look like its bolted on tho.

and your opinion is what i wanted. no less important. thanks for your input.

I have separate angle rings if you're interested in just one, 2 1/16 only. And I'll try to get you a measurement of behind the dash. There is A LOT more room without the AC duct going behind there. Should be plenty.

no carpet or rubber floor mat.

thats the stereo. the sweet sounds the truck makes . :D

my other truck has factroy radio delete plate in the dash. nothing there at all. and i figured i would install a radio soon after i had the truck on the road. 4+ years later still no radio in the truck.
