Do I spy a D60?

i have yet to see a D61 in a 70-93 dodge 3/4 ton truck that truck prob had the 60 pulled and a 61 put in its place and for others who dont know what a 61 is its a dana 60 housing with 44 internals useless

The only difference between a 60 and 61 is that the center section is cast to accept a higher ratio. You can use a spacer and a set of 60 thick gears to get away from the 3:07's.Everything else is the same as a 60.

I googled it and they reported them in 87-88/91-93.5 models,so who really knows.:dunno:The one I had,had the 727/205 and I'm about positive it was a 89 model.

I can't believe anyone would sell a D60 for $150. The best I've done was $200 :haha:.

Anyway, lots of those 89-93 Dodges with a Cummins had D61's but if what 1Ton says is right why do we avoid them??

Another guy I buy from front's are $75 and rears are $50,regardless of what they are.

I have never done it,but I had a 61 one time and was going to use it in a buggy project and researched it and found that info.I never used it though, some guy wanted it more than me so I loaded it in his truck.:D

You suck :haha:. That's not fair. if you ever get too many I'll take a few and give you $300 apiece :D.

If I could find a cheap 61 I'd try it.

That's way off. Dana 61's were designed for diesel trucks so they could use very high gear ratios (numerically low, like 3.07 as stated above). They have the same shafts, knuckles, inner c's, hubs etc. as a dana 60.

The difference is in the center section. The housing has to use a dana 61 specific carrier and you can only use a couple ratios (3.07 and 3.4 or 3.5 something). They are undesirable because you can't do much with the gear ratios on them.

There have been people that have made 4.10 gears work in a D61 housing, search pirate if you are looking for info on that.

This guy is the main one I buy from,he has his own crusher and could care less about selling parts.Any money he makes off parts is just that much more.I have had to stop the loader from putting trucks in the crusher so I could get parts off of it first. He knows when I leave with it,it wont be back regardless if it is good or not.If I get it home and pull the cover to find the gear's/carrier are trashed I just part it out.

But it makes me think I have been paying too much

That is just one of about 20 places I go.I have to pay good money for stuff sometimes too.I've paid as much as $700 for a 60 before, alot to invest for a $200 return.

There's a guy like that here too but he's a dumb@$$ and won't call me back or anything. Has trucks piled 5 high and just crushes them   . It is a lot to invest if you only make $200 but I do it too.
