This is the result of needing to free up space in the garage to start building my K5 cage

Bought this beauty on CL for . . . wait for it . . . $1,500. It's a 12Wx12Hx32L mini-barn

12109258_739400808307_7075369768296708537_n.jpg

This was the north-facing side of the structure so it has a little mildew and moss action going on. Nothing some bleach and water can't take care of. Should look really nice once it's all cleaned up

Only place level enough to put a shed this size was the 24x40 area that I was planning on pouring concrete for a shop but since that is on hold for a while anyway, this works out pretty good

The front middle floor joist needs to settle a bit if you can't tell. It had developed an upward bow from how the previous owner had it set up. Hoping that it won't take too long to readjust since it interferes with the doors a bit

Double lofted, one at each end

Lots of room to work with in here! The exodus of stuff from the garage will commence shortly.

How the heck did you get it home ?...flatbed 18 wheeler ?..and a loader to get it on the trailer ?..thats almost as big as my garage,my quonset is 20' x 40' !..

Ford crew cab 1 ton dually and a purpose built shed moving trailer. Thing was slick. Had hydraulic cylinders all over the place. It could tilt up/down, boom in and out, and the last 2 foot or so could go left/right. It was also operable by a belt worn remote control. Guy said it was $20k new but dammit if I wouldn't love to have one of those at my disposal. He said he could actually haul up to a 14Wx12Hx40L structure with this setup. 12H is the max due to overhead wire clearance issues and we were brushing some tree limbs on the way out of Nashville. Once we hit the highway it was slow but smooth sailing.

Starting to move stuff out to the shed. Pretty proud of this tube storage. Gets it out of the way nicely and holds up to 200' of 1.75 tube. Those are 23' sticks. I staggered the supports to distribute the load over more studs

Definitely nice having storage separate from a work space. Are you going to throw some paint on it?

Nice score btw.

Are you talking about paint on the shed? I plan on spraying it with a bleach/water combo to get rid of the weathering and mildew before doing some kind of stain in the spring.

And yes, I am super excited to get all this stuff out of the garage. It is going to be like having a brand new work space.

yep something to seal the wood on the exterior.

Garage exodus is finally back on track. Boy do I love having a big ass shed. How did I ever live without it?

12219480_741124279457_2150397467172270485_n.jpg

Once the Blazer is done this thing is going to be practically empty, hahaha

12219483_741124269477_7653724429034973741_n.jpg

Lots of room left to "grow into". I find it both funny and slightly scary that the front loft is pretty much dedicated to project vehicle seats, lol, yes I have a problem.

Garage pics will be posted tomorrow afternoon/evening. It is unreal the amount of space I have in there now. It feels so roomy it's like I'm free-balling in there. :D

This is the result of the garage exodus

12191789_741233350877_6556464847444091334_n.jpg

Wife and kids don't know what to think about the garage being so clean

11220902_741233281017_4753232101538479264_n.jpg

This nook will be a lay down area for bigger items like axles when they get pulled back out.

12196141_741233360857_4385295215634640737_n.jpg

This is the most usable space I have ever had to work on any 4x4 project. Can't wait!

12191761_741233385807_3884205133408216374_n.jpg

On the floor against the back wall is all the important stuff to make this cage happen like welder, bender, air compressor, drill press, notcher, etc

12193674_741233410757_4309784748905590792_n.jpg

Even cleaned off the blazer bed. With cooler weather coming and no grass to cut I am getting excited about banging out some serious work on this thing

11231085_741233445687_8458380539979199480_n.jpg

Hey look at that, the commuter car even gets a spot in the garage too now . . . at least until cage building gets into full swing.

Ok, I promise that I will get back to actual truck progress posts/pics soon but you'll have to indulge me one last time as I share shed pics. This is actually pretty damn cool, I don't care who you are, so without further ado

12234933_741806182917_3022449986208558529_n.jpg

So, being the the crazy innovator that I am I decided to make a shed ramp to facilitate getting the mower, go cart, power wheels, etc in and out of the shed but I wanted something different and worthy of the mega-shed's greatness. I now present to you permanently installed foldout heavy duty shed ramps. Trust me, you won't see this everyday.

12219618_741806207867_3692781564529048005_n.jpg

Here is the right hand side ramp in the locked upright position

12249839_741806222837_8837400955463457738_n.jpg

I split these ramps for two reasons. 1) So you can use only the right hand door if you want to get something small out. 2) Half a ramp = half the weight - a necessity with construction this heavy duty

12235140_741806312657_8719627950554245308_n.jpg

Each individual ramp is 35" wide and just under 6' long

12239573_741806337607_5824504892975005626_n.jpg

Now that is what I am talking about!

12219434_741806357567_5210319833487563417_n.jpg

There are actually three different places these ramps are hinged so they can adjust to whatever angle the ground is at compared to the shed floor

12239758_741806427427_5646709092699930770_n.jpg

Here is what makes this idea work and still be stupid strong. I made a permanent ledger wtih 2x6s that tie into the front of the shed runners. This still allows the front doors to close. The 2x12 board that is on the main hinges has 2x4s and a stip of 3/4 plywood to match the height of the shed's 2x4 joists and 3/4 floor. This lets the weight of the ramp rest on the ledger board instead of making the hinges bear all the weight and also lets me hinge the ramp to the face of the flip-up ledger section.

12208386_741806532217_6978179062410972354_n.jpg

Each side gets 3 of these heavy duty hinges attaching the 2x12 to the shed floor and 3 4.5" commercial grade door hinges attaching the ramp to the 2x12 flip-up ledger section. There are 3 more standard grade door hinges attaching the transitional 2x6 board to the front edge of each ramp

11221770_741806497287_8883630212109083145_n.jpg

Having two locking points per shed ramp means the ramp can't go in or out from this position. This is for additional security and a safety feature to prevent accidental ramp release

12246807_741806477327_4331483577088509739_n.jpg

This lock is more a matter of convenience than to prevent entry. The big heavy duty locks will go on the front doors for that purpose. Still, it will surely catch any would be thief by surprise that this is hiding behind the main doors

That's pretty badass right there.

Thanks, obviously I agree. :D I couldn't find anything even close to this online when I was looking for ideas so this is 100% custom one-off design and build by myself. Just took some good old ingenuity and a long time in the door hardware aisle of Home Depot trying to pick the right hinges and whatnot to make it work like I imagined. One main advantage of this idea is that the ramp stays under roof and out of the elements so it will not weather making it pretty much last forever. Also means that the ramps will go with the shed wherever it is moved and not have to be readjusted for different grades.

nice ramps.

and the garage looks good, I can appreciate a well organized work space.

Finally getting back on track with this thing.

New spicer life series u-joints with full circle snap rings went on the 4340 35 spline outers

Kit comes with brackets, rotors, calipers, & pads!

Why downgrade the brakes?

Martin

It's not a downgrade, actually an upgrade since the calipers are more responsive. From Lugnut 4x4:

Why should you convert your front axle to 3/4 ton disc brakes?
1. Better clearance for wheels
2. lighter weight – about 41lbs
3. firmer feel of brake pedal
4. still can stop 44″ tires
5. clears most 15″ steel wheels with 3.5″ or less backspacing

I offer these kits for Ford, Chevy, and 1990-93 Dodge kingpin axles with external lockouts. It even works on a Ford balljoint axle up to 1997. New and improved design now works with all known aftermarket knuckles including Crane Knuckles. I don’t think the will work on older drum brake front axles.
