Does this look like a good buy for a DD?***How bout this one?***

So I went and check the burb out today. I have to say its in decent shape. the hood is all oxidized off, but the rig is very straight and seemed to be rust free. the interior, dispite being god awefull red, was also in excellent shape for the year. as was the dash. the headliner was coming down in one spot, but thats no biggie. the tires were in good shape also.

I didn't get to drive it tho. Po dunk little town lot (Banks, where I used to live) and the salesman was a "weekend guy" who couldn't really do **** but let you look. lame. still, i didn get to start it and after the glow plug light went off it fired right up. the trans fluid was nice and pink (700r). the engine did seem to have a good bit of leaky gaskets. the front of the motor was quite covered in oil.

sooo, i never got to see if they'd horse trade with me or anything. I'd like to drive it. of course they are only open from 8-5 m-f and are on the oposite side of the world from where I work....:angry1:

The link is expired, got a new one?

If you can manage a straight across trade or something that might make it worth while. Nothing you've said sounds wrong for a truck of this age. Straight across and you get a more civil truck that gets better gas mileage wouldn't be bad.

I like them both.

The Burb probably has 145k on it. Half ton axles but you can fix that easily enough.

Would you rather have a half ton 4x4 Burb or a 2wd 3/4 ton pickup?

niether is ideal. nor is my gas bill...

i don't need 4wd for a work rig here in rainy land, but it does bug me to buy a 2wd truck. old ways i guess.

the burb is full optioned, 3 rows of seats. I'd prob gut the rear and lose the 3rd seat for sure cause it'll end up stuffed with tools.

...and you lay tile so it'd end up pretty dusty.

Can always gut the rear half behind the second seat. Some bedliner to protect the metal and call it good.

Burb would probably get better gas mileage.

I feel the same way about 4x4 vs 2wd. I've never owned anything that wasn't a true 4x4 so I'm kinda weirded out by the notion of a 2wd truck.

this one was really clean too. its just A LOT OF RED in a truck that big :D

we'll see, i'm torn between older diesel and something more modern- with a payment. don't want a payment, but as we all know, buying a rig in the 2k range means hidden costs. not all chevy owners are like us K5ers...

Gotta sorta weigh the options.

$3-400 a month in payments and hopefully no repair bills soon

or

$2000ish purchase and you will likely have to fix/upgrade stuff.

For me it has always been "I can fix a lot of **** in a year before it costs more than a monthly payment x 12."

man, don't do that to me...

besides, i need a work rig and your blazer is waaaay to nice for that kind of use.

i'd trade ya for your burb, but know thats a special one to ya

6.2's in 3/4 tons and one tons tend to get cruddy mileage. Geared too deep...

14-15 mpg is common. A good TBI rig will get that without the PITA factor a 6.2 can bring.

is this true? it seems like there' guys on here with 3/4 tons claiming 20 mpgs. ia it the axle gears or that the half tons usually have OD?

my tbi blazer with 31s and 3.42s is getting 12-13 empty on the highway.

there just never is a simple fix all answere...except money. lots of money :haha:

The big culprit is usually the TH400 and 4.10's behind the 6.2. The TH400 takes a good amount of power away, and the gearing gets the revs into the 2800+ range on the highway. Not good for mpgs.

Look for a half ton...pick-up, or burb and you should see 20 or better without any trouble.

That burb is a 1/2 ton with the 700r so i'm still interested in it. The th400 in my rig doesn't seem to bog it down much. Course its been years sense i've had anything other than a th400 or sm465...

so, i got off work early yesterday so i boogied on back to that car lot to test drive the burb...and they had just sold it 2 hrs before i got there. :doah:
