Had the same problem, vibration when I let off the gas, and it turned out to be the u-joints. Once I replaced them, the vibration was gone. Was always under the impression that worn u-joints only vibrated and made noise under hard acceleration. I guess you CAN teach an old dog a new trick or two.
I did read somewhere about how hot rodders used to shim the rear in order to reduce the angle, but that was more of a drag racer thing.
Saw the post a month or so ago, about $150 u-joints that never wear out, but I'll just keep installing the $30 chinese stuff for now. Once a year isn't that bad, plus I need more time in the garage, doing stuff.................................
