Due to the fear mongering of the fuel prices going through the roof, what is your dollar limit on a gallon of fuel that will keep you from attending?

I am 3400 miles round trip. plus wheeling. At 9.5MPG towing, based on last year, that is

360 gallons of gas.
at $4.00 = $1,440
At $4.50 = $1,620
At $5.00 = $1,800 at this point, I am driving the Ram out and sitting by the pool.

And someone else will have to take over the event for the future years.

Should drive a diesel, then you can siphon fuel from the diesel powered charging stations along the way:haha:

I spent $935 over 2500 miles on my AZ trip. That was at an average price of about $3.75/gal.

Roughly figuring round trip with off road miles right at 800 miles total at a rate of 10.5mpg I’d use a little over 76 gallons of fuel at a price of say $4/gal I’d be at $306 for fuel.

I’m ok at that rate. Even at $5/gal it would be at $380. I shudder to think of $5/gal fuel but I know our CA brothers are at it or close already. I could handle a $400 fuel bill but any more would cut into trip funds.

checking prices at gas stations in the inland empire CA today many were over $5.00 for regular. Most were 4.98. IDK what the costco gas price was the line for gas looked like the line for the jungle boat ride at Disneyland. I finally had to get gas, in Hesperia for $4.84 Thanks Joe. :doah:

I did about 2500 miles round trip last year for BB.

With a 20 gallon tank and the bladder of an old man that's alot of stops.

I computed my milage a few times, best I got was 12 mpg. Then I quit checking.

At some point I just quit counting how much I was spending.

BTW, gas here in SW Washington was going for $4.19 for regular today.

$4.58 in Southhill , I tried keeping track the first time I went , it was depressing before I ever got out of Washington, just put it on the card and paid it off when I got home.

Paid $3.44 two days ago in metro Denver.

And to answer your question, $5.00 a gal does seem like a magic number where you have to stop and think of R.O.I
I have a lot of other cool toys that smiles per gallon would be a better investment at that point.

I have always said once the truck is ready the most expensive part is fuel, the rest is cheap.

Somehow for the last few months we've been a lot cheaper than anywhere else I've been, even Wyoming. It's $3.12 down the street.

Every year I've gone it always ends up right at 1000 miles trails and highway. That ends up being about 105 gallons. Most likely $5/gal would be a tough call for me. It really depends on a lot of factors tho.

Another thing may affect all of this is, lodging.

I have a friend who set up an Airbnb at a house in Moab for EJS 2022. Had it since April of last year. Was canceled last week on him. He is fighting it because it came back on at $75 a night more with a 7 day minimum. He has obviously notified Airbnb.

I think lodging will go through the roof also.

I know I’m in the minority as far as most are when it comes to lodging. I can park my hooptie on a chunk of BLM land if I have to but a lot of the fun is hanging out and swapping stories with the rest that are there.

It’s a tough call when you’re the guy that lives 10 miles from the Florida east coast. Diesel right now is $4.49/gal. It was a 4,600 mile trip for us in 2020 when we went. I’ve been told adding the turbo will get me 16mpg. Don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough to realize those numbers but even if I did, the math works out to just shy of $1,300. Add lodging and food and I’ll bet I’d be investing $2,500 to go this year. Just hoping prices settle down by then.

The fuel-savings app GasBuddy projects that gas prices will peak in May, at an average of $4.25, and that prices will remain above $4 a gallon until November.
