Dual Thermostats on a 6.2?

Well we're just gonna have to disagree, No need to sick the moderator on me. I would associate the heat problem with several factors.

The extra weight placed on the front of the vehicle pushing a load

The final drive ratio "axle gears" in particular

Transmission heat load, coolers are in the radiator in factory form.

Cooling system properly rated

Plowing in 4hi or 4low?

Air flow would be far down on my list possibles because it is not heavily impeded, telling someone to just lock the fan up to me is a bit like...

someone asking why the tires on the back of their blazer are very squished with 2000lbs in the back.

the cheap simple solution would be to pump the tires up to 80lbs

Is this so you can have a good a laugh when they post back that their rear tires blew out?

Sorry that's the best parallel I could come up with..

A fan upgrade, fan clutch, thermostat, high flow v-belt waterpump, all things that would be WAY lower than that $1000.00 number you're throwing around.

Now that was a useful post. We can disagree and give out good information without having a pissing match.

No problem Rene, form here on out I will be a diligent yes man too.

I'm all done Starting Now....:D

I'm not asking anyone to be a yes man. I'm hoping you don't really want to start fuvking with me either. I've been patient so far, but you are pushing my buttons...:deal:

so does this "your sig line" qualify as humorous statement to you? or is this ok and somehow mine are not? I don't understand what it is you have against me? Why are you threatining me?

See ya in a week. Perhaps within that time you might reflect back and understand it's not a good idea to challenge me publicly. If you have a problem in the future you might consider a friendly PM.

So, I went to the farm to plow, took the busy route, and went up the mountain a little slower, 15 mph, in 2nd, she has 3.73's... and she got a little hot... Even tho it's below freezing, 30f

On the way back, I was chatting with a diesel friend in Indiana, and even tho it's all downhill to the city, she was still running 220. So I stopped at a well lit gas station, and turned her off, and the fan stopped pretty fast, and the rad was barely warm... Bad thermostat... DUH!!!

I'll be busy tomorrow, as when I was plowing, my front driveshaft came loose at the tcase, and went thru the epoxy repaire I effected last spring when the same thing happened... Now I know where the vibration was coming from... Luckily I was going 1 mph at the time. Mind u, in the middle of the road, but a quiet country one...

Here's last springs episode... The nutcase is my twin Brother...

So I pulled the Tstat, and a friend said NOT to use the Hi Flo, which is what he said I have.

That's all anybody in town had, so I bought one, and the NAPA box has CHINA inside, for $21. I also ordered a store brand, Parts Plus one for $8. It'll be in this AM...

So what's U'r opinion? Hi Flow, Orig GM? Junk China copy???

Original GM. End of discussion.

Also, FWIW, the sincle stat bypass blocking housings are the best ones to use for any 6.2 or 6.5 application. When the stat opens on a bypass blocking housing a separate disc closes the bypass port, forcing nearly all of the coolant flow through the radiator (some always flows through the heater core with any of the systems). Also, not all water pumps are created equal, especially the reverse rotation jobbies. The earlier reverse rotation pumps had terrible flow balance. The clockwise rotation pumps are all pretty good, and with the bypass blocking housing they should have adequate flow even for a 200+HP 6.2 or 6.5.

Max, you are saying I should run the single stat crossover over the dual stat? I have both available.I will be running the HO reverse rotation (serp setup) water pump. Looking at them both, the single stat will be much easier to run as no modification of the HICA is needed.

Well, there is debate as to whether the single bypass blocking housing flows enough coolant to prevent cavitation with the HO water pump. The single stat housing you got from me is NOT a bypass blocking housing. You may be able to run it with the HO water pump without any issues, since it always bypasses some coolant. I guess I would say that either one would be OK, but with the HO water pump the dual stat might be better. The single stat bypass blocking housing is the best setup for a standard output water pump though...

Could you tell me more??? I didn't know there were options...
What has my '84 6.2 got? I have several 84's, just coincidence..
I was thinking of rebuilding a nice running '88 flat belt 6.2 for my '84 Sub. It runs great, doesn't burn oil with 240k, but I want to install a Banks, and no the best idea on a 25 year old engine.
Back to the bypass blocking housing. I just installed a "normal" looking tstat, but what's the best GM one look like? A good friend said the one I pictured above was NOT the one to use, but he's not a 6.2 expert.
What year did the housing you recommend come on? Would you have a picture?
What's your thoughts on the flat belt? I guess that's the reverse rotation WP?
I'm really tired of Vbelts squealing. I've tried many diff belts. Delco, TopCog, "Green Stripe" Gates, NAPA Premium. Not sure what my prob is, but they start squealing after a couple of months, and I don't put on alot of miles. That's on two dead stock 6.2's. One has a plow, but hydraulic pump style.
I've checked alignment, as I had a prob on a 305 on which I installed a giant 100 Amp Cadillac alt, and had ta tinker with the lower spacing.
Thanks a bunch... Andrew

That is the bypass blocking housing. It is the more desirable of the two single stat housings. It uses a different stat, which has a disc on the bottom of it. As the thermostat opens, the disc closes off the bypass port to the water pump. As a result, nearly all of the coolant flow is forced to go through the radiator (some is always bypassed through the heater core on all the systems). The non-bypass blocking housings like you have still bypass a large amount of coolant through the pump, so there is less flow through the radiator even when the stat is open.

Any chance anybody has a pix of one, better than from ebay? And what's the specifics on the year/model? CUCV???
Does it take a specific Tstat?
What's your opinion on this one that I found in my Blazer? I'd like to update ALL of my 6.2's... anybody got the housings I need?

The stat for the bypass blocking housing is different from the non-blocking housing. I believe a 95 6.5 would have the correct stat.

Don't use that POS Chinese stat, unless you want to be replacing it again soon. Stick with GM/AC Delco.

Anybody have one of the crossovers? So it's not the Military CUCV?

I was plowing in towm today, and it's 20f, and the gauge only went to 1/4, or 175f? And still had a nice heater... so old tstat will have to be tested, but must've been frozen shut...
I'll do the pan a water/thermometer trick tomorrow...
