Dual VS Single plane with TBI style

Aluminum expands 2x what steel does with temperature, but it takes a ton of heat to warm up a chunk like that. You could try some kind of rapid cooling of the nipple (won't that make it poke right out? ;)) while the aluminum is hot. Was that a hand wrench or impact? I would think impact is needed to break it free, but I have no idea how much torque cracks something like that.

If it gets too stripped, you could cut the nipple back and weld a nut on there. That thermal cycle might get things going, like removing a broken stud from Al. Worst case is drilling and re-tapping.
 
You have a 6 pt deepwell socket? Still stripped? If so time for a honking set of vice grips.

Is that hose barb steel? If you can't heat the aluminum enough I would try to heat the barb. Its not as ideal as you would rather have the AL heat up to expand the outside, but there may be a layer of oxidation insulating between them and you just need to break that bond.

I would heat the nipple and then shock it with cold, then get a good six point impact socket, it should come out
 
In desperation, you can put a lot of torque on something that big with a giant pipe wrench. :thinking:

What kind of penetrating oil have you been soaking it in? There's that old-timer trick of melting wax in it. I don't have much luck with it, but some people swear by it. Something I've thought about, but haven't tried much, is soaking threads like that in naval jelly.
 
What is everyones opinion to slotting these holes?
I have a die grinder, body saw, and drill press. I think that's all I have for this job. Maybe drill another hole and connect them to make the slot? Lots of file work?

Also, Im shocked how much better the casting and finish is on the Chinese made Professional Products intake over the Edelbrock. It's substantial.

Most intakes are off a slight amount, this is why people port match to smooth out the transition from intake to the heads.
 
That finish depends on the casting style, most older Edelbrock manifolds, and some of the older castings that are still being used, are still sand cast. If you get a newer model like a SVII or others that are permanent mold cast, the walls are much thinner and a lot smoother and then they make that PP manifold look like junk. It just depends on the process used. Overall Edelbrock is still higher quality than most overseas junk, especially when it comes to cylinder heads and water pumps.
