always been a fan of Dually trucks
but you can't throw them through a car wash and it's tons harder to drive through the city with one. But I like the look. Something about a CCLB that looks too skinny without some beef in the back

Haha, my kids say my dually looks like it has big hips...

I vote dually. My dad has a 91 V3500 crewcab that he bought new as the family vehicle. We travelled all over the east and west in that thing. He used to have a camper for it and needed the 4x4 for the mountains in BC. It ran on propane too so fuel was inexpensive.

Now he runs an '06 duramax dually. There are so many times we take for granted how much weight that thing can handle. My uncle has a half ton that we had to use once and it could barely hold a small load of lumber in the back where the dually wouldn't have even noticed it.

He has thought of downgrading to a SRW for a little better fuel economy. But with the gooseneck trailer and the heavy loads we've had lately, its probably better for him to stick with the dually.

One other suggestion I have for you (not sure if it was mentioned) is to convert a 3/4 ton suburban into a dually. More passenger space and dually cool factor! :waytogo: Better than a van too IMO

The only way I would go dually is if I pulled a heavy bumper pull, or a large cabover slide in camper and wanted the extra tires to help with sway, Dual wheels do not increase load capacity they help with sway and stability. for pulling a goosneck or 5th wheel give me a SRW .

And shortbeds are for Soccer moms a crew cab long bed is a the best for towing IMHO the long wheel base sure helps with ride, sway ,and braking control

Another reason that I prefer SRW to DRW is traction. Duallys just dont have it especially in mud and Snow/Ice . there just isn"t enough contact pressure .

I tow with and DD my 03 Dodge, which is a 3500 longbed 4x4 SRW. I only tow a few thousand miles a year and its 8000lbs or less so the srw is perfect for me currently. Plus the farthest place I currently wheel at is only 300 miles one way. But I do see this 4 wheeling becoming an even bigger addiction then it already is, so trips will end up going farther from home for longer time frames. Which means having some kind of camper setup, at that point I'll step up to a dually but it'll be medium duty :D. Go big or go home :woot:

Dually, without a doubt..

Bringing this back up.

Man I like both so much by made up my mind and going to convert my SRW k30 to a dually.

In some time, but I yanked the bed because the old bed was T-rashed

When I moved from Delaware to NC I used my 89 3/4 ton Suburban pulling the 18ft car trailer load with my BBC 1 ton K5, K5 loaded with tools/parts and KLR650 on the front, bed full of tools and weights and had no sway.

My single wheel Dodge 2500 QC short bed tows perfectly fine without burning an extra set of tires too. I've been across the scales at 18K pulling the same car trailer and again had no sway issues or a need to carry a bigger load.
I think it's overkill but they look cool :waytogo:
