Ok to be clear and not being a smartass in anyway. We have been playing the diesel truck game for 20 years. I know all the faults and expensive repairs very well! Lol!
We are GM people. What I wanted to know is. Would a Dodge be a better truck for lasting the long haul. Or stick with a GM?
We have 6 Duramaxes on our farm from every year 2001 to 2012 and one 01 Dodge Cummins.
Stock is the only way to compare. God only knows what can happen after it has been Focked with? And I don’t want a Ifs/solid axle debate. Ifs is fine for the intended use of theses trucks.
Excellent reply’s guys and thank you!
That is the other problem. Good Canadian trucks going to the USA... leaves us with very few stock trucks and lots of deleted trucks to look at. Deleted is fine! Bad deletes and tunes are not! This dealer does a lot of trucks too. A buddy of mine just bought a gasser Chevy from them that they brought down from Canada and converted to US for him. https://cars.ksl.com/listing/6863675

Yeah if it was me I would need a properly deleted not turned way up truck or a low mile bone stock old grandpa wagon. Hard thing to find now days. That is the other problem. I would rather step on legos barefoot every sunday morning for the rest of my life than to do another duramax water pump.
It’s not that bad... 4 hours.
Plus we got Lorne our neighbor that’s a master GM tech. Lent him today our 12 Duramax for a fuse box problem on a 09. Turns out it was a bad wire... saved a few hundred in testing and throwing parts at it. Scratch his back... works out good!I think Duramax makes the most sense for you guys. It's the platform you guys have the most experience with, combined with the fact you guys are "GM people".
I was in a similar position when my son wanted to swap injectors and adjust the valves on his '03 D-max. I was concerned about my competence since I don't get to do engine work very often nor had I ever been into a little diesel.Agreed Dean, mine took a few days (1st shot at it, and had to wait on a few parts) it was a PITA not having gone down that road before, but having the right tools and a bit of experience behind me, I would attempt it again rather than send it to a shop.
