Dynatrac

I think so, but I had a Low Pinion before, and if I had to pay more for the High Pinion vs the Low, I wouldn't spend the extra. High Pinion Fords have weaker knuckles, one of the worries I have with mine. That and huge brakes, so 15" wheels are out of the picture.
 
recommendations? high or low. Now this is for the front. Transfer case doesn't matter I am planning on getting an atlas II any ways. It would just be a different adaptor.
 
if they were the same cost, definitely go HP... only problem is there are a lot fewer HP 60s out there and they tend to go for bank... while you can still get a "deal" on a LP 60 on occassion.

imo 800$ or so for a front 60 around here is reasonable but not good, 14ff 200$

with that money (dynatrac)you could buy some disked mog axles
 
yeah $800-900 for a used lp D60... most hp ford d60s I see are $1100-1200.

Last question how can you tell the difference between a srw 1ton 14bff and a 3/4 srw14bff? I know the spring perches are different but I am not sure how they are different and how you can tell.

Please explain how they are "much stronger"???? According to their website the only upgrade they have on their standard front 60 is the Dynatrac 3rd member. Granted it probably is stronger, but how many people brake the 3rd member on a regular ol' D60??? Other than that it uses standard shafts, Spicer u-joints........and even comes standard with 30-spline stubs. Woohoo, beefy :surepal:

For a fullsize truck application in which you can find a stock "bolt-in" Dana 60 axle, the only advantage Dynatrac offers is the optional high clearance 3rd member. If you are wanting a custom width front 60 with something other than an 8-lug bolt pattern than that is a different story.

good point.. and its worth noting that you could buy a used D60 for under $1k... and swap in a currie rock jock center section and 35 spline stubs and be right around 2/3s of the cost of the dynatrac and you'd have way better clearance, a HP and 35 splines through out...

by the diff cover shape... check the tech section.

the tech section shows the different ring gear sizes...it doesnt say anything about the full or semi floaters. or is the "small" one the semi and the "big" one the full floater?
 
correct, small = semi floating... large = full floater. The shape of the ff14b diff cover is very distinctive and a sure give away if you're axle shopping at a parts yard.

A full floater 14 Bolt has a hub/spindle with two tappered roller bearings and the axle only see's torsional force while a semi-floater 14 Bolt has no hub and the wheel bolts directly to the axle shaft itself and uses one roller bearing for all the weight load with the axle shaft being the inner race.

The 14FF has a removeable pinion support as to where the semi 14 does not.
There are more differences but that should get you close enough to identify.

1 ton the perches are closer together. 40.5" IIRC.

3/4 ton they are 43" IIRC.

somebody check me on this. That seem right but it doesn't sound right.
