electric cooling fan kits

I was just thinking it would be sweet to put a float switch in series with the fan control relays. You could probably cut up a junkyard washer fluid tank to get one. Mount it under the rad support so as water gets up close to the fans they turn off. Then once you climb out of the water they would kick back in.

I've never checked, but I bet there's a more high tech way of detecting water using an electrical sensor. Just need to make sure it doesn't trigger in the rain. It's a cool idea either way.

that would be pretty sweet. I'll have to remember that when I do mine all up.

One of the low coolant warning sensors would probably do it. As mentioned, making sure it triggered only when actually hitting water would be the difficult part.

If you cross water often, it might make sense. Adding something that could fail/falsely trigger the fans to stay off regardless of engine temp is a bad idea IMO.

I do think it would be a cool gadget, but what if you walked off with the truck idling and it triggered? Coupled with a high temperature sensor as an override would mitigate that, but a lot of complexity that could be solved with an on/off switch.
