electrical help ... how to convert to switches ?

so after playing with stock stuff and still getting no place ...........

how do i make it simple and convert to switches and push button ?

i know yellow and purple = starter function ........... what others do i need to make switches and stuff ?

still need road lights for dot use .

so unless i can find out why my 87 efi truck setup is not feeding power were it needs to be i got 1 of 2 choices . cut it up for parts or hot rod it .

Hot rod it :pimp:

Undo the bulk head connection and see what looks like. If nothing obvious, wire brush it, and plug it back in tight.

so incase i didnt say it . my fuse box test all fuses 12v on there pins . just not getting power out to were it needs to be . maybe try another ignition switch before i got crazy on it .

so i have power at main plug at firewall before plugged in to block . but the truck even with new starter switch on top of column will not power up .

whats next to look for ? maybe fried fuse block on back side ?

i kind of need this to run . so if someone has even a decent write up on hot rodding it with a few wire changes and switches i am game for it . come spring it will be fixed or other options .

If you are serious about by passing the truck wiring. you need to supply power to the HEI, switched 12v, min 12 ga wire, 15amp protection. push button start signal also 12ga, 20 amp protection. The truck will crank and run. Also the orange (heater), pink (ignition coil, hei), and brown (accessories) will need switched power. They are fused at the fuse block this the power source for those circuits

If you want to try and use what is there.

Is the neutral safety switch in the column ? If so the purple crank signal wire runs through that. You can disconnect and jumper the plug, this will by pass the neutral safety switch.
There are 2 terminal cavities at the ignition switch that should have a 12ga red wire. 1 in ea of the 2 plugs. This is 12v hot at all times. I believe the 2 wires are spliced together in the loom under the dash. from there to the bulkhead connector. Which you have said has power.
Rereading your first post the fizz pop might have been this wire shorting out and burning through in the cab. I suspect it will be behind the fuse block.

I know a second ignition switch was tried, there is some adjustment that need to be checked. Not difficult and I'm sure you are aware, but is a question I have also has it been verified with test light or volt meter that the 2 red wires have not power ?

wont work for me ........... i run edelbrock pro flo 4 efi .

so i still need basics to work but looking for easy mod . might pull fuse block from fire wall and look for burnt sections .
I got home kinda late. Send me a message what wiring diagram block you need

On my 77, the two shell halves of the fuse block will occasionally separate. Clean and reinstall fixes things for awhile

update : over the summer my cousin was up for a visit and was looking for something to kill time with . i said find out were my power problem is and why it wont run . 45min later and it was running . he found the little 2nd ground wire at battery to core support had gone bad inside the factory molded on end for the side post . so he cut it off and capped it just in case . then he built a bigger / better one and went direct to the battery with it from the core support and VROOM she runs all the time now . some times you just need a outside view from a different person .
