Engine Issues or Fuel Issues

Have you pulled the bolts yet to separate the engine from the rest? I skipped rapidly through the video, but didn't see any rotation of the flexplate, so it seems non-conclusive. You already know that you don't want it to be internal engine damage, so you have to divide and conquer here. Most other diagnosis are cheaper than engine rebuild/swap.

I did not pull the bolts yet. I didn't have enough time to pull them today.
I did rotate the plate by doing very slight turns off the ignition key.
If I pull the bolts, do I need to turn the plate by hand? I don't think using the key in ignition to turn the flex plate would be wise when pulling bolts.
 
you can the starter doesn't care if torque converter is connected or not. Just be sure to push the torque converter (big blue bowl shaped thing) back into trans, before hitting key with bolts out. Personally I would turn by hand, either at fly wheel with tool designed for it, or front crank bolt with 5/8" deep 1/2" drive socket and long handle ratchet or breaker bar. Once the torque converter is unbolted using the starter may cause a badly cracked flex plate come apart, and damage other parts or people.

Plus, pushing the converter back makes looking at the thing a lot easier. Typically the cracks are in the center of the flexplate - coming from where it bolts to the engine. Even a severe one like this you might not notice with casual inspection.

Hi all, I'm reviving this thread. I don't think it's a flex plate issue. This seems to be wobbly. Is this the drive shaft? Would I need to remove or open the engine to find out if a bolt came loose?
 
It's hard to tell from the video whether it's just the pulley wobbling or if the balancer is also moving around. There are 2 things to check here - the center crank bolt and the smaller bolts around it. Do a good inspection in case there is a missing bolt. You may have to get creative in holding the engine from turning while tightening them.

I once had one of those pulley bolts loosen up and it made a scary knocking noise that had me worried for a couple of minutes.
 
One other item to check is your engine mounts. If they are sagging the balancer/dampener (part the pulley is bolted to) will rub on the cross member. This can make noise. If the engine mounts are factory style clam shells and more then a few years old, they are probably sagging.
Also that is not the drive shaft. Drive shaft is connected from Trans or transfer case to axles.
