speaking of 10 meters...how does one go about getting licensed for those? and what about 2 meters? is it all 1 license or what? ide like to get into radios alot more but im on a budget...and i already have a CB

HTX 10 is a lot cheaper - but the people I trust say it's not a very good radio... cheap isn't always better anyway! I pulled a card from a bulletin board with a guy that has one for sale... I'll check into it...

Thanks, Kelly KB0UQT

1 test of 50 questions can get you into Ham Radio, 10 meters, 2 meters, 6 meters, 70cm and up. (legally) Check out the ARRL.ORG website for more test information.

The Radio Shack version of that chassis , the HTX-10 , is the best one . Clean power , aligned for 10 instead of 11 , and has hot receive .

I just got one from my fatehr in law , and all reports on our local 10 meter net have been positive .

Now I almost have every radio made on that chassis ( I collect weird items ) :D

To clarify for everyone , a radio with channels may go into other bands , but would not be able to get every frequency . A amatuer ONLY radio has a VFO , and can get any frequency . So you can see trying to make a contact with a channeled radio could be troublesome , if the frequency is inbetween and the clarifier won't grab it .

I know it isnt as cool as everyone else's stuff, but it serves its purpose. Mine (the one mounted above the windsheild) doesnt work anymore, so my little Midland will get put back in until I find another SSB for a decent price. The wifes (the one mounted on the floor) works awesome and we were averaging 8-10 miles on our road trip last year.

Its cool to me , I love any Cobra CB with the mike in the side . Those were made when they were still making good ones :D

So, what are you trying to say, Paul???? :p:

Yeah, that's my luck. Always a day late and a dollar short :doah:

USPS came yesterday with this beautiful number . A little elbow grease , some contact cleaner , and I was hearing all over the place on HF .

Now I am bidding on a iambic key , I will make myself learn this damn code yet

Does a 730 have an internal keyer? What do you have up for antennas (or what can you tune on) I'll try you when I get home from work on 20 if you can tune it.

We may need to try Sunday , or Saturday after work . Michelle and I are doing a movie tonight .

That and I need to double check the relays tonight after the movie , I cleaned the preamp relay , and recieve is awesome , but turns out I need to clean the t/r relay too . I noticed it drops receive a bit after I key the transmit button to tune it . So that relay is sticking .

I have a homemade inverted vee cut for 10 meters , and a MFJ versa tuner II , so I am pretty sure I can tune down that far :thumb:

Did'nt see any mounted overhead.
Here's mine. It's a sharp, don't know model #. Antenna is a 3-way AM-FM-CB splitter. Its O.K. for what I use it for. (talking to my fourwheelin buddy out on the trails and laughing at him when he gets his Burb stuck. Oh and its got a P.A. also lots of fun.
