Exhaust exit ideas

If you had a rear deflector on the back of the hard top, the downward force of air would keep the fumes out of the back wouldnt it? Rarely k5’s with them
In theory it should. Provided the truck is moving.

I think they are rarely seen because (my opinion here) they look horrible. Plus I bet they would be easy to tear out of the fiberglass top if not installed right.

I have one, the problem is generally when you are going slow, and slowing down. Not enough air moving to create air movement that is effective at lower speeds.

Honestly, probably better off adding a catalytic converter. I know, blasphemy, but they work.

Adding a cat would be fine for a couple years, then it would wear out, melt, block. With out higher engine temps, fuel ratio, and timing control, even sometimes air pump system, a cat won't last.

I ordered some you new mufflers, I’m just not into the black widow venom250 on my blazer. Presently it dumps under the truck just in front of the rear axle with the tips pointed down. No H pipe just duel exhaust/headers. I’m not changing that.
In hindsight this wasn’t one of my better ideas having it dump under the truck.

Anyway, I ordered some thrush weld mufflers and getting the exhaust re-routed. After talking to a few members here, they recommend out each side behind the rear tires.

some Pics from browsing the web. The posted picture sure has that exhaust awfully close to gas tank. Is there a way around that?

Another pic of it going before the rear tires. Probably the cheaper route. But I want it quieter and the fumes away from the cab as much as possible.

Have you ever opened your gas cap and had a rushing air sound that lasts a little bit?
Dumping the exhaust under the body usually does that on K5s and burbs. It's the exhaust heating up your tank.
But surprisingly running the pipes close to the tank, Yet behind it, doesn't do that.

Nope, at least not yet.

Behind the rear tire at and angle (not straight out the side) totally solved my fumes problem. Was crazy to drive it sometimes before that because of the fumes.

The rear deflector does not keep the fumes out. I had one on old top for 10 years.

Would the tips pointing down work as well as having them angled, instead of straight out

I have to assume that GM spent a fair bit of time and effort on exhaust, as the repercussions for getting it wrong on a Blazer could be exceptionally problematic for a manufacturer.

Not sure if GM kept them all this way, but straight out the side, with an angle cut towards the ground, I assume served to get the exhaust out into the air flowing around the vehicle, and keep it down towards the ground. Thats what I've seen with factory exhaust.

Nothing but eliminating the exhaust gases that cause the issue (catalytic converter) can hope to completely get rid of the issue.

At low speeds even factory routing still leads to exhaust smell in the cab, but it is relatively infrequent, unless I am doing a lot of low speed driving.

At this point I just need the exhaust out from under the truck. Depending on the cost will be the determining factor, before or after rear tire. But I’m thinking thrush on and black widows being sold or black widows go to the c10...

Have you looked into this kit?

Nah, I didn’t see that. Looks interesting but I can’t weld so... hahahaha

but you just clamp everything? I need 2.5 and it keeps saying 2.5 “isn’t for my vehicle”

I got the dynomax version on mine. It’s all clamped. Didn’t have issues with leaks. And it’s a universal kit. 2.5” will fit fine.

One thing to keep in mind. On an off road vehicle when you point the exhaust tips down, you have an increased chance of blowing dust off the trail, much more then the tires alone.
