Experimenting w/56" rears & wheelbase-52" fronts; finally some flex testing

What kind ride would you get with a 2.5" shakle flip and 56" springs?

if you used the zero-rate to move the axle forward another 1.5 it would make a huge difference. you may be better off adding to the front too, instead of adding it all in the rear. my axle is back 2.5" and this is how my wheelwell looks:

im running a good bit more lift than you, but i think you can get a general idea
I am planning on 52s in the front, thus moving the front axle forward 2".

Actually I was playing around with a K5 side view on the computer and I liked the looks of 2.5" back just like you're saying. I may end up doing that. I want to see if longer shackles will move the axle forward any.

The thing that's buggin' me the most is that I cut the front of the rear fender so that it flowed well into the welded sliders. Wonder how hard it is to replace rear fenders.

Speaking of replacing rear fenders, I was wondering the odds of bedsides from a short bed fitting just right with the axle moved back 4". then I suppose it'd be that area after the fender that would be a problem. Maybe I could halve the two fenders together.

Your truck looks very nice BTW.

yea, fixing the shackle angle will move the axle forward some, since ur current angle is pretty poor, id guess you could get .5-1" forward from the current stance.

i keep seeing the 8lugs and forgetting you have a 1ton membership now. :haha:

I think you'd still need to run 6" shackle. The only difference I see is the bracket doesn't hang down as far from the frame. :dunno:

I don't think it would be that much different, really.

Thank goodness I have access to an impact wrench. Those extra 2 lugnuts per wheel are a lot of work. :haha:

would be that much... The axle will swing forward some but it will be minimal. I WOULD NOT move the mount... 56's dont have alot of uptravel so alot of angle is a good thing... it will let you maximize droop. A longer shackle should get you what you need. I was running a 7" shackle, 56's and an ord flip and it was sweet. 6.5 may still be a hair short.

But again i wouldnt move the mount, the more angle the better with the springs you have. :D

Here is my flip from Diy.

I am running 56s, Diy flip and 6" shackle. All I did was swap sides with the brackets no other mods at all and I think my shackle angle is near perfect:D .
with stock 56's id still want more angle than that. your not maximizing what your springs are capable of. Look at one of the springs when its flat... the shackle still has plenty of room to move up, huh? If you had more angle and a slightly longer shackle you would get the same uptravel but alot more droop.

Here is a pic for comparison. 56" springs, ord flip in the 52" spot NOT REVERESED, they are on the regular side that they would be on for 52's, 7" shackles

Heres a flex pic, rear pass almost negative - shackle still has room to go even more and rear driver is fully extended, with a lighter pack and more weight on the rear it would have flexed even better, there woulda been alot more drivers side droop and a lil more pass side compression

So is this still a good thing??? I'm thinking of running the ORD shackle flip in the 52" position and run the 56s with the 6" shackles...

Run the diy4xs shackle flip a set of 7" shackles and the brackets the regular way in the 52" spot...

The reason i say kert (diy4x) over ord is
1. Easily adjustable shackles
2. Excellent quality
3. You most likely have it faster
4. Kert has built some custom things for me and his work blows me away!:D

forgot to mention I already have ORD shackles and flips and 56s... Flip kit is in 52 position for now since I have 56 front eye poly issues....

Well then id go with kerts 7" udsr shackles, no one else makes em 7" and built. The lowering shackles 2wd guys use work but they are flimsy

And here is my flex with the 6" shackle and reversed hangers.

how many leaves do you have? are the packs still clamped? These were 9 leave + overload 56's with the clamps. P.s. my shocks were maxed out... If i dissconnected the shocks it would been even more, not to mention a softer set of springs

I was tossing around 7" shackles. Maybe I'll try those first, and I could shorten them if needed.

Cant hurt to try em out.

Can you run the 2.5" shakle flip and use the 56's for a softer ride and minimum lift?
