EZO's Build Thread - Recipe for disaster... BUMPSTOPS, rough draft version 1.0

Bolting down a shock tower just doesn't seem like enough to me. :dunno:
Not, that I'm an expert.
I just overkill everything... :haha:

I actually have plans to build a reinforcement on the back to the top frame rail and that will mount to the bolt for the motor mount bracket.

I am worried about my frame cracking also just with 2 bolts holding it there.

Seems like everyone likes to use those F-250 shock towers so they can run a shock with more travel. This may be a dumb question, but has anyone looked to see how they were originally mounted on an F-250? I would think they would be attached to the frame with rivets, but I wonder what kind of support they have? I don't even know anyone that has a TTB F-250 4x4 that I could look at anymore. Isn't that what those shock towers were originally meant to go on? Like an '80-'96 Ford F-250?

Just as a guess, i'd be the new ford superduty frames are a lot thicker/stronger than ours.

Going to be welding up my shock tower reinforcement as soon as I get a day that is not over 100 degrees in the shop... I cut some plate the other day with the plasma cutter.

Got my shock towers done a while ago - have the pics... BUT I totally hosed my photos folders in flickr and wiped out the linked pics on my thread! :doah:

Will be updating and putting all my pics back into the appropriate posts... Damn this might take a while

Anyway, its been a while and I am getting motivated to finish the old beast!

Updates to follow :thumb:

Sexy Teaser Pic just for the hell of it...

F@rd Shock Towers with frame reinforcement.

I welded a vertical spine on the back that mounts to the top of the frame. The plate bolts through the two existing holes through the top of the frame tying the shock tower into the engine mount. Should be plenty strong now with no stress to the frame around the bolt holes. :waytogo:

Just read the whole thread. Is your radiator solid mounted to the radiator support?

Martin

Where in Parker do you live? I live in Castle Rock, but grew up my whole life in Parker. It would be nice to find another full sizer that is close. Plus, I would like to see that Atlas in real life :D

It is bolted solid but not really, those brackets have some flex in them both up and down and slightly side to side and the bottom is sitting on rubber pads in the bottom channel.

I can move it around by hand some, I think it will be ok....

I am on the very south end of Parker, only a few miles from Franktown. My brother lives in Parker also.

Would enjoy meeting up sometime with other full sizers too!

I have been thinking we should have a get together for a wrench / beer / bbq day out at my dads shop sometime. :thumb:
The shop is in Elizabeth, pretty close to Wal-Mart, so it would be easy for guys near Parker and Castle Rock...
