It will be easier to bolt a full manual 700 to an LS motor than to bolt an LS trans to an early engine. If you like the 700 then go that way. The output shaft on the 700 will need to be changed to a custom splined unit if you intend to keep the 203 transfer case. If you switch to a 208 or 241 ( advisable) then you can get those TC's from a vehicle that was equipped with a 700 pretty easily, no special shafts required and solves the full time vs part time dilemma.
