Trust me, it won't rust. I did use a real brand new GM steel gate, and new china doors (couldn't justify the $400/door for GM doors vs $45/door for china, don't ask me how they make and ship 'em for $45, but that's what I paid). They are line-x inside and out. (Yes, I had linex shopt spray inside the doors and gate). On top of the line-x, I used a product called rusfree applied with thier air gun applicator. That stuff is great. So anywhere the giant line-x spray gun couldn't get, I got with my little rusfree gun. Oh, did I mention I primed and painted the doors and gate inside and out before line-x. That's on top of the galvinezed GM steel uses on the tailgate now, and the electrocoat primer the doors and gate had to begin with.
I have an '86 C10,don't forget I live in MI, the salt king (we aspire to salunate our Great Lakes by 2012 if winter road treatments don't change), I applied Rusfree rustproofing in '90 to the inside of the doors, and they are still looking brand new. I only wish I put thier undercoating on the rockers and cab corners, because those are pretty gone now.
Did I mention I hate rust. I'm anal about it. I can't stand it. Anyhow, I believe I've taken all the precautions I can with the doors and gate.
Anyhow, if they do rust, they are fairly simple to replace....
US Body doesn't have gates anymore? I know they used to (I bought the body back in 98..99 somewhere..). They were trying to sell me thiers, along with thier doors, but I opted for steel doors and gate because all the little tracks/weldnuts, holes..I didn't think it possible to get good working innards with thier doors and gate. They'd be great if you just wanted and off-roaded or to make some half-doors out of or something though....
