Fiberglass body back from Line-x..UPDATED PICS!!

A glass Blazer is my dream. I have been talking with US Body Source and they don't have tailgates. What the heck do you use for a tailgate? It's like the 1st or 2nd thing to rust, so there is no "rust-free" truck with a steel gate. And going without a tailgate isn't much of an option for a K5.

What did you use?

All Corvettes are all fiberglass.

Not true- only up to 78 are they fiberglass. They are actually SMC (sheet molded compound) which is a plastic. The only fiberglass piece in my car is probably the fiberglass in the mufflers.

But anyway, that blazer is definately bad-ass. Thats a great idea, to rhino line/line x the outer boxy except I think if I were to do that on a k5 it would cost a ton of $ since I would have to keep the metal body.

Trust me, it won't rust. I did use a real brand new GM steel gate, and new china doors (couldn't justify the $400/door for GM doors vs $45/door for china, don't ask me how they make and ship 'em for $45, but that's what I paid). They are line-x inside and out. (Yes, I had linex shopt spray inside the doors and gate). On top of the line-x, I used a product called rusfree applied with thier air gun applicator. That stuff is great. So anywhere the giant line-x spray gun couldn't get, I got with my little rusfree gun. Oh, did I mention I primed and painted the doors and gate inside and out before line-x. That's on top of the galvinezed GM steel uses on the tailgate now, and the electrocoat primer the doors and gate had to begin with.
I have an '86 C10,don't forget I live in MI, the salt king (we aspire to salunate our Great Lakes by 2012 if winter road treatments don't change), I applied Rusfree rustproofing in '90 to the inside of the doors, and they are still looking brand new. I only wish I put thier undercoating on the rockers and cab corners, because those are pretty gone now.
Did I mention I hate rust. I'm anal about it. I can't stand it. Anyhow, I believe I've taken all the precautions I can with the doors and gate.
Anyhow, if they do rust, they are fairly simple to replace....

US Body doesn't have gates anymore? I know they used to (I bought the body back in 98..99 somewhere..). They were trying to sell me thiers, along with thier doors, but I opted for steel doors and gate because all the little tracks/weldnuts, holes..I didn't think it possible to get good working innards with thier doors and gate. They'd be great if you just wanted and off-roaded or to make some half-doors out of or something though....

Updated Pics

Updated pictures! Roll cage installed, doors/tailgate assembled/installed, brakes/pedals/dash/column installed. Getting there....

You have the hummer thing going on. Just wondering how wide are hummer wheels.I can get some from the hummer dealer.

17x8.5
The backspacing is different, I had to use a 1/4" spacer to clear my Tie-rod end.

what is your real thoughts on that body? Waste of time? Lots of work to make it all fit right so far? Seems like an awesome way to pick up an old rusted out rig and make it into something great(and maybe fast) again.

I don't know about the fast part. Looking at the price increases on that body since I bought, I don't think I'd go with that now, not at the price they have today. (I think $7500 for just the body now, they went way up this year, I bought at $4500 and another 1300 for the clip and front inner wells).
It's been a boatload of work to make it fit right, probably getting near 2000hrs now. Body mounts, roll cage, dash/pedals and seat fitment were all huge time consumers. The doors are especially a problem, but one more adjusment session (and a few beers) and I should have them ok. Sealing is going to be a problem around the doors and gate, I have to work that out yet some gaps are really big, the sealing flange is too far away from the doors
. If u wanted just a wheelin' rig, it might be a great way to go. Skip the doors and gate, toss in a cage and it would be fast. (Still $$$$ thought).

I don't have a glass body but my truck was rust free so I didn't need it.I did have the whole truck sprayed Viper red Line-X inside and out though.Did you get the ultraviolet coating?I opted for that inside and out drilled drain holes in the floor and sold the top.

I did have the UV stuff mixed in. I was going to go with a yellow, but the Line-x guy said he wouldnt not recommend anything light in color, even with the UV protectent, he said red would turn pink, yellow would turn green-ish...how long have you had yours, how's it holding up? Any damage areas you've had to fix?

I have had it about 2 or 3 months and it looks new still.Except for the mud!I did have some tire rub on the left front lip but they fixed it cause they wanted to take it to a festival for the Line-x booth. It cleans up real easy.I wish the undercarriage was sprayed in it.I was told that if it fades or gets damaged in any way they will repair or replace it for free, forever!I will include a pic(if I can figure out how)to show how good it looks dirty!
