Just pulled it home. 16’x83” 3500lb axles. Boards replaced two years ago. $1500. Been searching for months and $1500 usually means being a trailer to haul the trailer home. Guy even threw in the tool box, straps, bottle jack, and 4 way lug. Amber side markers don’t work. Not really many plans at the moment but to add a support beam in the middle (you can feel the wood bowed right over the axles where there is no beam), LED lights, add brakes and tie down hooks.

It's a good start, and a good deal IMO. I got tired of trying to find a deal like that and bought one new a few years back. Wasn't $1500...

I bought a Load Trail CH07 in 2004 and only paid $1550 for it brand new, they sure are a lot more now

I’ve been looking for months. Most priced at $1500 needed a complete rebuild. New ones spec’d like this are ~$2800 out the door. So it was hard to justify buying a $1500 clapped out trailer that needed a $1000 in work. Guess mom was right when she said be patient.

I can only imagine.

What do springs and hangers look like? Shouldn't 7000 pd trailer have at least 1 axle with brakes already?

Not necessarily. Seen plenty new and used setup like this. They are usually rated at ~4500lbs capacity. If you get one that has brakes, it goes up to 7k capacity.

Both have the flange already welded on so easy enough to add. Cheaper for manufacturing to just use the same axle across platforms and just add//delete options like brakes. Just need to add drums and hubs and wiring.

I recessed mine, used a router to cut a pocket. 2/3rds of deck board still there.
My thought was if I had push something around by hand, less to hang up on.

Surface mount is going to be stronger since you do not cut a large hole to recess the ring.

And this is my exact struggle haha. I'm torn. A surface mount seems stronger because it doesn't cut away boards but the ones I've seen also don't come with a backing plate so I'm just relying on a bolt and washer through wood.. The recessed ones do cut away about 1/2" or so of the board but they've got a backing plate to spread the load around. I'm probably way over thinking this.

You going to haul the k5 and sxs on it?
I can only put my Manx type buggy,or the sxs on mine. Single axle.
I do have square plate under the deck, it covers more than one board.

You're a man when you loan your trailer to a buddy and don't get it back for at least 6 months because it has his sh!t sitting on it three counties away. BUT I'm not bitter...

Anywho: in my own experience the recessed D-ring pockets just collect debris and the rings then occasionally get stuck for a minute. Not a big deal, but neither is driving over the non-recessed ones.

C channel frame or angle iron? I've got a 7k 16x7 car trailer with brakes on one axle and the not as good angle iron frame. I've abused the crap out of it and overloaded it lots and put tons of miles on it. That one should work out great for a sxs.

It’s angle. Not the trailer I’m worried about. Just figuring out tie downs and over complicating it in the process.

if just the sxs go ahead and recess the hold downs 2 for ea rear tire and 1 or 2 for the front. get the tire basket type tie downs for rear. Ratchet strap in front.

I like my tie-downs. I'd take a picture, but see my earlier post. They're not on the deck at all - rather, they are pieces of 1/2" steel rod bent to form a loop and welded to the side rails and sticking up.
