Finally a man - Got my own trailer

if just the sxs go ahead and recess the hold downs 2 for ea rear tire and 1 or 2 for the front. get the tire basket type tie downs for rear. Ratchet strap in front.
I’ve got 10k ratchets that held it down great this weekend. I just don’t like wrapping it around random pieces of metal. I like dedicated tie downs. Summit has some 5k rated recessed swivels with 1/4” backing plates for $130 for 4 that I’m thinking about getting.

Next question. Brakes on front or rear axle?

most trailer manufactures put them on rear

I've seen them both ways on new trailers. My understanding is that with a shared link suspension, rear is best because when the truck hits the brakes it raises the front of the trailer and takes load off of the front tires and pivots it back to the rear tires and when the front trailer brakes are applied it rotates the front axle forward which applies more pressure on the rear axle. With independent axles, the front or both is how it needs to go.

Another option on tie downs is E-track. Bolt or lag it to the deck if it is in good condition and run straps that way. Or attach it to the frame or the uprights around the trailer.

So I’ve got this big ol 12k winch kicking around my shop floor that I need to get mounted on the trailer so I can drag my new 4Runner up on it. I’m thinking of just getting some 3/16 steel, drilling holes through it, bolt it to the deck with another piece of steel on the underside to spread the load. Thoughts? Planning on mounting it to the deck directly below the tool box.

For the 4 runner I'm sure that will work fine and maybe in the future do a receiver tube and removable winch setup if it's only needed very seldom.

Ordered a 30’ spool of 7 wire cable today to rewire it. Nice thing is the brake wire and ground wire are both 12ga and the rest are 14ga. Also ordered new LED lights and a 7 way plug. Going to try and get this done at night before I leave Thursday. No trailer brakes yet but getting prepped. Dad is bringing his router to the lease next week so we can install the tie downs. Tomorrow I’m going to move the tool box all the way up and get the old jack removed since it’s useless. It’s got a folding jack on the side that is the main one.

My trailer doesn't have that angled support bar at the front like yours has and I recently mounted a bedside toolbox just like yours on top of the front rails right in front of the front rail on the tongue part. It fit well right there and cleared the weight distributing hitch brackets I had to put on to use it on my wife's yukon. Plus it's lower and out of the way.

Bolt down some e track and strap off those. Way more fasteners than an eyelet and way more options.

Not yet. Weekend of the 9th. Although today I was informed he’s gotten to the point he can’t get out of bed and his niece is completing things so who knows at this point.

I wish it didn’t have that angled brace for that exact reason.

Since it does have that angled brace, mount your winch to the fence between the braces.
