so, one thing they said (and was mentioned by another member here)

They said...I shouldnt have to do any of this stuff with a 4" lift. I explained the rough country lift gave me like 6.5" lift. They want me to bring it by to be sure, but mentioned the idea of just swapping my lift for a true 4" lift. Cost may be just a bit less than the other route...but then I could sell my current springs and maybe recoup some cost. Be on a true 4" lift, and not have to mess with the driveshaft.

Also seems like less hassle. May just have to trim the fenders more than I had planned.....thoughts?

Go for it. More stable, softer ride. Why not?

naw, 77_jimmy suggested it too....its sounds like a doable option. I orignally went with a 4" lift to avoid this stuff...and most people that ride in it tell me it rides rough. I will take it up to krawltex and atleast hear them out before I start to make a decision.

no, when I googled it, I actually read several posts of people with the same problem from them. figured there is nothing that is actually going to get accomplished by talking with them....prolly just me getting a headache.

I like the idea of the SYE, the CV shaft etc....but if there is an easier/cheaper route that doesnt really make any compromises aside from overall height...I will entertain it.
 
Sounds like you're gonna spend more money to fix a problem that aint broken. Just sayin.

You need to keep in mind what you had planned for this rig. You were going to carry weight back there, dirtbikes and gear and such. Once you load all that up and those springs hold it all just fine, you'll realize everything is good. And I don't think those rear springs are giving you over 6" lift compared to the fronts. Not to mention they are still new and have not settled yet... which they will.

Remember also, it's a leaf spring truck. They ride rough. End of story.

You don't need an SYE for the use you have planned for the truck. With that in mind you have 2 choices.
1. Have your newly retubed shaft modded with a CV and slip yoke at the front and be done.
2. Order another completely new shaft with a CV and slip yoke at the front and be done.
(both of these still require new rear axle spring perches already in your plans)

I'm not telling you what to do by any means. Just trying to make some sense out of all the things you have in front of you. :waytogo:
 
Im listening to everyone and everything at this point....

I should point out, that my dirtbike is on a trailer, not in the back...just my gear.

As far as the springs not giving me over 6".....you would be surprised. We measured against a buddy with a 4" skyjacker lift and some 35s. I should have been about 1" taller due to tires, and I was around 4" taller if I recall. MY rig has rough country springs front and rear.

so far, the info I am finding online suggests this is a common issue with the rough country springs. some claim to have 10k miles on them, with no sagging.
 
My truck has a Rough Country lift, and it I ordered the 4 inch and it is definitely a little higher than that... I don't have any vibe issues though and its going on three years.
 
I'm running rough country 6" lift and all I can say is that I haven't had any sag and it rides like the name! In fact I've loaded it up with wood and had minimal squat... I know it isn't helpful at this point but I'd never buy them again...
 
Actually the pic in my sig is a load of white birtch wood almost to top of cab... About 2 inches total sag (rear lift springs not blocks)
 
So...just WHAT IF.... I was to try and get a 4" kit somewhere that was going to be a true 4 inches...ride better...and NOT have to deal with driveshaft mania like I am facing.

Where would you recomend, what would it cost.

Do you think I will be able to sell this BRAND NEW rough country set?
 
Oh and.... Scored a deal on a ORD steering box brace. Missing one bolt, a bracket that most people apparently don't use, and the instructions. Anyone got instructions? Or at least which bolt I need two of?

Tuff Country is the fav around here for off the shelf lift kits.

You could probably sell the lift. A lift is a lift and half the mooks on CL won't know good from bad.
 
my buddy installed a 4" rough country lift back in the early 2000s and it was easily a 6" lift. It did ride pretty stiff, but if i remember right, still flexed well off road...

anyways, on the drivelines, i had 78 k5 with a 6 inch lift simply measured what i needed, took my drivelines to the machine shop and had em redone. no CV in the rear. just lengthened for the new lift and i never had any bad driveline vibs after that.

only thing sketchy about that rig was the wicked bumpsteer with the stock push/pull setup
 
My suburban went 6" up too when I put my 3" lift kit in. But I forgot to factor the larger tires in.
 
<< been rocking the 4" Rough Country lift since 2005. Yeah its a stiff ride, but its lasted this long, being abused pretty well. I'm just now noticing a slight sag in the rear which I'll eventually take care of with shackles or something.
 
Well I started to trim the fenders because the tires rub just coming into my driveway while turning.

Am I doing this right. Kinda feels wrong.

Kept goin anyway. Look right? I cut the outer bodywork. The inner body "cage" looking piece. Then cut a straight line up the inner fender well and just hammered it backwards.
