Finally build thread worthy material

all signs point to my rear end noise being my ujoint angles.

I went up to krawltex (local offroad shop) today and told them my issues. They took a good look at everything and suggested that I try a transfer case drop first before I dive into the whole cv shaft/spring perch relocate.

They made it sound like it was a fairly common thing to do on these things when you run into this issue. Now I have read alot about it and get lots of good and bad info on it. I atleast know that if I do it, I need to use square tubing to keep from wrecking the frame holes.

This kit was suggested for the job by a member here.

Im still looking around, but it does seem like something I could try for cheap and see how well it works out.

If you read the instructions for my rough country springs...they actually tell you to drop the transfer case to avoid driveshaft vibrations/issues.

How does it affect your exhaust routing? What other issues are there to be concerned with?

Million dollar question...better to remove the shims completely, to hopefully drop the pinion angle down to 7-8*(to match the tcase 8*) or drop the tcase to match the 10* pinion angle?

That does sound like the easiest and cheapest thing to try and get me back running well...even if it is only temporary

I ordered the skyjacker tcase drop kit. It was $28 at summit, so I think its worth a try at that price. If I dont like it, im not out that much.

I think I should try to remove the shims from my rear lift. My Tcase points down 8* and my pinion points up at 10* The shims are pointing my pinion UP, so removing them should bring the angle down some, and if I get lucky it would bring it down to 7* ( i have read the rough country shims are 2.5*)

Those 2 things cost me a total of $30 and might help me out....true?

If I can get that to work, then I only need my stock y pipe rerouted, and a high angle CV front driveshaft and I am ready to actually drive this thing and not just to the corner store and back.

Im not saying I wont end up with a rear CV and perch relocation....I just cant make it happen right now. I need some immediate satisfaction.

Good luck!!:thumb: Hope it works!

so with these military wrangler tires...should i be able to put the tire on that rim myself with some tires irons and a ratchet strap?

Yes. They aren't the stiffest sidewalls and those are 16.5's so no bead lip to fight with.

nice christmas gifts indeed! haha Let us know how the tcase drop effects the driveline vibrations/noises.

Good job on the Tcase drop. That's the one I put in too. Start with that and see where your angles are. If you need to take the shims out too, do it. Just start with the simple stuff first. It made the difference from not able to drive to "able to drive".

Let us know how it goes!

So I installed the skyjacker transfer case drop kit tonight. It couldn't have been easier and only took me about 15 minutes. I used my motorcycle lift and some 6 x 6 boards. I put a tad of pressure on the crossmember and unscrewed one side. Slowly let it down and installed the spacers. Then did the other side.

Gave a quick glance and there does not seem to be any interference with the distributor.

Went for a quick ride and was super impressed. The truck is very quiet now and does not vibrate at all. Even when I let off the gas at 65 mph. What's funny is that the noise my distributor was making is gone.

For 28 bucks,... I couldn't be happier

One thing. It didn't say to use washers on the nut end. Jut on the the bolt head
Do you think I should add washers to the nut end?

Yes, use the washers!
