Finally Finished 91 Burb. Build Up W/Pics Updated 11-10

It probably has 39 little dents in it and the dark blue is peeling and the top surfaces are faded and it is chalking off every time you touch it.
So far the undredrive pullies aren't giving me any problem. You're right the extra 15hp. is at probably 6,000Rs Any less draw on the motor will help give me better gas mileage ( I hope ).

I bought the blue burb here in arizona. I brought the white 81 burb with me from Ohio, it was getting kind of rusty and the drive train has over 250K miles on it. It has a 383 cu. in. stroker motor that was built for me by Johnsons Racing engines in Columbus Oh. The blue burb had 138k miles on it and it had a stock 350cu.in. I decided to swap motors but I installed the Edelbrock TBI cam first in the 383 so I could break it in. Then I pulled the motor.
Thanks to my girlfriends son who was staying with us for a couple weeks, cause I wouldn't of been able to pull the motor by myself, not with the angled driveway.

WOW Pulling that engine really took the Years off of you.:haha::haha::haha:

Hard work keeps you young, doesn't it ??
While the 383 was out I did front and rear main seals and valve stem seals. I used the rope in the cylinder to keep the valves up tight while I removed the springs and installed the seals.
Then I bolted down the new intake.

Had to do some work to the 454 throttlebody after putting in another spacer to raise up the injectors. Had to grind to clear the fuel inlet and outlets and did some grinding on the side to clear the Summit fuel pressure gage. Also installed an adjustable regulator.

Got the motor stuffed back in and installed all the freshly painted brackets, pullys, new headers, new motor mounts. Chopped the air cleaner up so it could fit 2 filters. I tried to use stainless steel bolts where ever I could, so there was a lot of polishing going on during assembly.

Rope?

Can you explain your rope to keep the valve tight trick? I have always used compressed air to keep them tight.

I love your transmission cooler lines.. I need to do that one day, still using the hardline with a softline attached

Me too! Could you take a pic of the lines going into the tranny? Did you have to replace the fittings or did you find an adaptor? I have never been able to get the damn fittings out!

I took the inverted flare fitting reducers out and ended up with a 1/4 in. npt. Then got the 1/4in.npt to #6 fittings from Jegs. That brass T is for my tranny tenp sender.

You crank it over by hand till the piston goes down, then feed the rope in, then crank it around till the piston goes up and pushes the rope up to keep the valves held closed. Then tap the valve with a rubber mallet to loosen the keepers and use the valve spring tool, take the keepers out ( easy with a magnet ) remove spring and replace the valve stem seal. It has to be tapped down to grab onto the stub sticking out for the intake side. That easy.

:eek1: Not a drop of oil or fingerprints anywhere!

Just.....Wow..... (holding back a tear, takes deep breath).... I wish I could get my crew cab that clean and shiny. Good work, Tarey.

Thanks for that advice on the rope trick. I was just going to use compressed air to do valve seals on my 4.3 this weekend, now I have another way.:waytogo:

Looks awesome man! You may have said it, but what was the reason for the double air cleaners?

I just figured it would breathe better with the 454 throttlebody on the stroked 383. I first did this on my 80 K30 I owned. It looks cool too.
