Finally... my 5.3 swap

All is well, replaced O2s and it runs perfect. Drove it 220 miles last night and didn't have one issue. It is a pleasure to drive now, cruises at 90 with the torque converter locked and just hums along. I am extremely pleased [emoji1]

Awesome!!

Can't wait until I can say the same. :D

Everything is working great y'all, I look forward to driving it all the time.

One thing I have noticed is I cannot get the transfer case into 4x4. Its not the linkage because I am still unable to shift it if I get under the truck and try by hand. I had the speedo housing off during the swap but thats it. Previously I had an issue with it popping out of 4hi into 2hi. Maybe its just time for a rebuild? What do y'all think? [emoji53]

When you try it by hand, is the linkage off of it? If it is off, then probably something is messed up inside.

Yup linkage disconnected. I am probably gonna drop it and play with the output shaft some, it seemed to have some front to back play whenever I had it apart. Could be bound up?

Maybe I missed it in the thread, but how did you go about attaching the transfer case to the transmission?

Great swap! Congrats on getting her on the road!

Thanks

Later model 4l60Es have the same bolt pattern as an np241. It just bolted up to the factory adapter out of the donor vehicle.

Got it, thanks! I was under the impression that the early 4l60's had the same pattern as the 89-91 np241, and the later models had a different pattern. I'm starting to collect parts for a swap in my 90 K5, and was trying to figure out how to get around having to use an early design trans!

Thanks
-Rob

The actual bolt pattern on the transmission itself is a 4 bolt pattern on early 4L60Es, there is an adapter between the trans and transfer case from 4 bolt to 6 bolt. Later 4L60Es have a 6 bolt to 6 bolt adapter. Either will work as long as you have said adapter.

What are y'all using for an oil pressure sensor? I was using my old tbi sensor tapped into the oil cooler block off plate and my gauge is reading about 15 psi. I have hooked a mechanical gauge to it and it reads 45 at idle and pegs past 60 with any throttle.

I took the tbi sensor out and installed a new 1 wire sensor and the gauge is still reading 15 psi. Y'all have any experience here??

I tapped into that block off as well. Used the sensor that Autometer sent with my gauges. Mine runs 20-25 at idle and goes up to about 65 at the redline.

I'm wondering if something could be up with the gauge itself. Maybe the gauge in the electric speedo cluster I put in is bad?

I'll have to swap them and go from there. I am so ready to have all these bugs figured out and my dash back together!

Victory!

Turns out it was the gauge. Swapped a different one in and it works perfectly.

Got my cluster all back together and everything is working except the fuel gauge. I ohmed it out and it is reading 285ohms... definitely out of spec. So I'll be planning a sending unit swap here soon. I guess the beating it took as I was installing the pump was too much, as well as it being 25 years old. I am going to replace the tank as well since there is only one stud holding the baffle on inside the tank... don't want it beating the crap out of my new sending unit.

It just never ends! [emoji6]

Don't you hate when a 10 minute job ends up taking an hour?

Changed the oil for the first time just to get any contaminants out from having the valve covers off a while back, and I've racked up 2500 miles on the blazer.

So I'm pouring new oil in and a peice of debris (blue painter's tape) falls off oil bottle and into funnel, then into head.... I am PISSED at this point because I know I can't let it go (invisioning a block oil gallery) I proceed to remove valve cover to extract debris and in the process I break the oil filler neck off (hoping debris was lodged inside) but no such luck. Long story short the valve cover came off to get the damn painter's tape out, but not without may curse words.

Then I go to fire it up and it runs like S***, then I find the passenger bank of coils unplugged.. lmao

My entire day went like this! [emoji53]

sometimes it's your turn man. sucks. glad you got it though.
