I bought it about a year ago at my local welding supply the name is conroe welding supply I am sure you have one in your area but I was in there a month or two ago buying wire and lincoln still had the special going. If you get the lincoln get the 180c and not the 180t that's the model lowes and home depot have. They are the tapped or pre determined step models although I found them on ebay for as little as 550 when I was looking at mine.
If you go with miller you can use tweco consumables, much cheaper than actual miller or lincoln stuff. I like my miller alot. it was a hard choice between miller and lincoln for me. I didnt even look at any others just cause I havent used them. The deciding factor was the consumables since there used so much
When my manager Junior was telling me the story his brother Raul that worked at our shop also, came walking up. He said to Raul do you remember so and so? He said oh yeah I do, Junior said I was telling Robert what happened to him? Raul said he got killed by welding on a welding tank of some kind. So without even knowing the conversation we were having Raul corroborated it. I believe it. I don't even know how we got on the subject but Junior is not an exagerating kind of guy. Crazy right. MAN does stupid hurt.

I bought my Lincoln 180HD (230A) from Home Depot, for ~$700.
I have yet to regret it.

I have a 30 amp breaker on my dryer socket i will be using to power the welder. Looks kinda like this one
Will that work for supplying all the power I need? If i need to make an adapter plug / extension how do i make sure the wiring on the plug matches the wiring for the welder?
Depends on the welder you buy. But with whats in your price range, yes. Take a picture of your dryer outlet. Go to home depot and match a male end to your dryer outlet. Then get a female end to match your welder plug.
ordered my welder friday from cyber weld. So far I am less than impressed with their customer service skills.
My order was placed on hold but they charged my account. No one contacted me as to why my order was placed on hold. I called and the guy who answered sent me to some lady on another line. I then had to repeat my self over and over and over and argue with her for quite a while until she finally gave up and got sick of me telling her the house number and street name are fine the reason there is an issue with the bank / CC is I mistakenly put my old zip code number on the address. I guarantee that if you put my current proper zip code in the address will be fine. She was less than convinced and kept telling me the street number is wrong.
I log into my bank account and the address they have is the proper one with the proper zip and the same house number she was arguing with me over.

Well that sucks, but customer service is and has not been any good for years. Some people are just idiots. Hopefully your welder works fine though. What did you end up getting anyways?

Bit the bullet and ordered the hobart 190. Figured that would probably cover just about any project I could want to do.
Also ordered a cheapish jackson helmet and some bsx gloves.
Your going to be very happy with that choice for sure. That will handle anything you want to do. You probably spent a bit more then you had planned on, or intended to but it's worth it big time. Happy for ya

now i just need to figure out how to truss my front axle and design / find a shop to bend some tube for a roll bar and then I will do all the welding for it. (After plenty of practice of course)
Have you ever welded before? MIG welding is super easy. It still takes some practice of course but you'll get it down in no time. Look for welding youtube videos. There are LOTS of good and not so good vids out there. LOTS of good welders here too. At least guys that can get it done. I'm not all about making absolutely the most perfect pretty welds. I like a good looking weld as much as the next guy, but guys who are top tier welders have such HUGE heads they quickly become Aholes IMHO.
Below is a thread I made about Hit and Miss welding. It's about days where you lay down great welds, then out of the blue you could not weld worse if you tried. It just goes like that at times. Round tube is or can be tough, especially small round tube. The larger the tube the closer it becomes to straight welding. With small stuff the posision of the stinger and your hands and body have to change dramatically in a short amount if time. Not to mention if your welding in a tight confined space where there it little room for your helmet, or something interfears with the stinger gun.
The second link is of my cage if your interested in taking a look at it. Any ideas you want to use from it, have at it. Third link is the first bumper I built. See, with a welder, and bender you can do just about anything you want to. It just takes practice and effort. Before I bought me bender I almost bought a tube bumper. I'm SOOOO glad I decided to buy the bender and do it myself. Now I can do as many cages, bumpers or any other fabrication idea I want, without paying someone else to do it.
One easy "push" welding method is take a pencil and a piece of lined paper and draw a series of lower case script written "L's. Only make the script "L" round instead of long and tall. Like curly q's I guess. The pencil practice is exagerated more then the actual welding but it's the principle of it basically. You overlap the previous curly q by about half the loop. of course a pencil is a fine point, a weld puddle has width to it depending on how wide a weld your wanting or going for. You want to overlap your previous puddle by about 1/2 the circular puddle.

I purchased both a MillerMatic 210 and an Ecno Tig from cyberweld.com Bother are great machines and have done everything I've ever needed over the last 6 or so years.
The only thing I've ever had to do was replace the wire sleeve on the 210.

tested out welder
I set up the welder (not sure what to do for the tension setting) and attempted to weld.
The wire melted and stuck like it should. It definetly penetrated the 1/8th inch steel tube i was practicing on. But good gawd does it look like a$$

Wire tension. Ok first shots of weld splatter are first attempt at rec. Settings. Second shot of splatter is wire speed turned down.
I feel like i would lay a better bead if i was doing more than just making a bead (like a fillet weld)
Anyways here are the pics. Dont be too harsh first time ever touching a welder and didnt have any body here for pointers.

I was taught to hold the wire and pull the trigger. If the rollers are slipping its not tight enough. If its pinching, its too tight. what size wire roll do you have?
Are you using the guide on your machine? Cfm might be low too. And get yourself some mig pliers and nozzle dip. Nozzle is was too bugered up already

That seems.... dangerous. Isnt the wire live when the trigger is pulled?
