First Gen, all hardware no software

So I bought this '70 K5 and fell in the rabbit hole ever since. It was tired, a victim of someone's "perfume on a pig" restoration. Original 350/350.Paint is nice.
FWIW, I still have a 12B behind my big block and a 700R4. It has a Truetrac and Yukon axles. I was harder on it when it had 33's, now with 35s I don't drive it enough to beat on it. However, 45K miles so far without having problems.
Granted, I haven't used it very hard offroad, ever. Only took it to Moab once with the 33's.

Some parts on order, while I have the 12 bolt out I’m gonna do the disc swap and hard line it after I fab my own truss. Now I know this is a source of many heated debates but after weighing my options against many other real world experiences of others I’m sticking with the 12 bolt. It’s already got strange engineering axles and eventually I’ll pull the loc-rite and put a Detroit in it.
It’s arguably almost as strong as a 9” and pound for pound it’s just not worth going with a sf 14. I have an aam 14bolt and a 14bolt corp that I can swap in if this doesn’t work out. I really don’t want the unsprung weight or loss of scrub height since I’m running 35” generals
I’ll also be locating the four tube bypasses to the leaf plates so I can swap an axle in that much easier. This however may cause some “packaging” issues as the 12 bolt is really narrow and I’m already running 1.5” spacers against my will. Oh well the wheel tubs are coming out and possibly most of the floor. Because race truck

With 35" tires, the 12 bolt should be fine if you don't drive it like jersey.
I ran mine 6 years with no problems on my k5

Had to order some misalignment spacers from ADS. Started tacking up the suspension parts. Seats are in.
Haven’t taken time off in over three years even with moving last year but I think I’m gonna take this week off to tackle the suspension.

You guys are nuts! I burn through all of 5 weeks of vaca and sick leave every year. I bumped up to 6 weeks total this year but we change over to an accrual system next year so I gotta carry over some to start out next year.

It's weird that compared to everything else in your shop, the calipers actually look the nastiest.

Some of my tools are reclaimed and some have been around the country with my being store in questionable leaky conex boxes that filled my tool chest with salt water. Either way they still work and I never turn down free tooling lol. I knew someone was gonna get me on the condition of those:yikes::haha:

HA! I was gifted my first calipers from a family friend. They were well used and were completely missing the lens cover over the needle so I always had to be super-careful not to snag them on anything. After many years of service they were finally retired for a nice digital Mitutoyo version. Tools like that can really make you grateful and appreciative for how far you have evolved.

It’s been a long week but much progress has been made. I trussed up the 12 bolt and put brakes on with new lines. Hope this holds up I do run 35” tires but get conflicting opinions.
Finished the hitch/tank cage.
On to cycling suspension and modified the rear hangers to work with 67-72 trucks.
The spare day up in my line of site so I’m also situating that down lower and tying the frame in more.
In hindsight I should have just bit the bullet and bought another set of coil overs and just run trailing arms for all this work

The front end is taking shape. I have to get the redesigned axle side shock mounts cut this week. I’m using some TMR customs stuff that’s designed for their ultra4 but some things are clearly not gong to be the same. Seems to work around the hydro boost as well. I need to find the correct p/s fittings so I can make my own lines.

Integrated the bilstien steering damper into the lower driver shock mount. Still need to make some gussets to the upper C’s on the d44. I’d like to add another crossbar around the air cleaner but the hydro boost is kinda in the way. Close to final wells out for the shocks. I haven’t got the cross member and radius arms yet so I’ll use the leafs as lame as it is and cruise a bit while I wait. The bypasses will be located forward with the king coil carriers rearward unlike it is here. I didn’t get a good shot of the damper. I was hungry

Well the car b que went well after the scramble to try and get the brake system bled. I still do not have full brakes. Can’t seem to find the trapped air. Used all the tricks I could short of the two bottle plate that goes over the reservoir to gravity feed the system. Talking to some local guys that seemed to have the same issue with these calipers , the wile of master cylinder may in fact be too small. On the body it does say 1.12 but I’m not for sure wether that’s the diameter. They had better luck with a stock 1 ton master cylinder

She sure looks good in the sunshine

I have a booster and master cylinder that you can try from a 1 ton or 3/4, your not far away, lmk

Is the master cylinder level or does it have slight tilt from front down to towards fire wall ? If it does there can be air trapped in front of the front piston. Removing and bench bleeding will solve this. How many caliper bleed screws, does ea caliper have ?

So I do have my buddy’s power bleeder I’ll have to try it. Hopefully this master cylinder wasn’t a waste
