Fit/retrofit backup camera?

So I am using mine as a 100% on rear view, I can focus on the picture, or the reflection, in my 01. The front camera is adjustable so I am not understanding that review. Both cameras record continuously, while key is on. I haven't looked into the sentry mode well enough yet. Iirc I have the 940 pro now.

We have the camera/screen unit - made magnet mount for it. It spends 99% of the time in a horse trailer but I have used it on the K5 and the Durmax. Love it for the portability!

My kid has a Wolfbox in his '93 F350. He cut down the factory mirror and uses the camera as his rear view. He custom mounted it in his cargo light. It turned out really nice. Gives a nice wide rear-view picture.

After reading the updates on this thread, I used my Google-fu to look for products. Stumbled across an item I didn’t knew existed. I learned that they make “CarPlay” screens that are or can be mounted on the dash or window and have a forward facing camera, they also come with a mountable backup camera. These devices are like using apple or android CarPlay in a newer vehicle. anything on your phone is now on the big screen via a WiFi connection. Can also connect to your head unit via Bluetooth or hardwired so you can play your music on your installed stereo assuming the head unit has Bluetooth.

Question is, has anyone here tried one of these or something similar? These seem to be the cats a.s.s for retrofitting and gaining navigation, audio, phone, and surveillance all in one. Thinking I could probably run the proflo app on my phone and display it on the CarPlay screen too.

Here is a link to a device with the features. Hard to believe they are so cheap. Pioneer and Kenwood make these too and they cost way more than these Chinese models. One would expect better quality and a solid warranty.

Put a Joying brand head unit in my wife's CR-V that didn't have a touch screen originally.

Was able to get the stock backup camera to work with the unit. Outside of that, with the right harness, it was an easy swap. Used that specific brand/unit as someone on YouTube had a writeup on that specific swap and recommended that unit. I wanted it to to be seamless. Wireless car play and android auto works perfect.

I have been keeping my eye on the Atoto units for the K5. They seem to support the product well, and they have a large assortment of units, some of which I know include forward camera support. At this stage I think these units are so well established, probably not a ton of risk to them.

My personal concern is how it will handle the bumps and jolts on and off the pavement in the truck, which clearly doesn't ride like a more modern vehicle. That and moisture, the humidity (up to dripping wet in spots) in my cab gets horrendous as it sits more than it's driven.

It’s all solid state, should be as durable as phone or tablet imo. As long as it doesn’t come off of the mount and get smashed up. I expect some brands have better quality components than others, and some have crappy build quality. I pulled the trigger on a IIWEY unit https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Carplay-Wireless-Android-Navigation/dp/B0D9XGT534. It was only $111. Paid an extra $20 for a 3 year warranty. How could I go wrong?

My biggest concern is whether these units are sending data back to the homeland.

I have had the Wolfbox G900 Pro installed for 8 months now and I like it a lot. Excellent picture quality during the day and at night. It’s got a wide view rear camera (that I installed above the license plate using their bracket) so I’m able so easily see the side lanes. I do like that it shows my speed. The date, time and direction is nice but not necessary for me.
The only time I miss having a standard mirror is when I’m trying to see how far down my rear window had traveled when I’m lowering it. Another minor annoyance is that all 3 wires (power, camera and gps) plug into the unit. I like a clean look and wish it were only 1 wire. It dies take about a minute to startup. I also had to turn the G-sensor off because it was too sensitive. Itkept saving videos while I was driving. She doesn’t ride like my Cadillac I guess it kept setting the g sensor off thinking there was an accident.

I know a guy that can fix this... It is more cost effective to just turn off the G-sensor but you can't do that with some people. I hear there are wives with sensitive G-meters that like trucks that ride nice. Wow, that squirreled off this subject quickly.

Anyway, I've been looking into a camera system for a rear view on my U4 racer so this is all helpful. My buddy I co-drove with a couple years ago had a camera under the car to watch the rear driveshaft get messed up too and that was sort of useful.
