then what good are these units for off road trucks . ?I bet your right, been reading people wash it and fries ecu....
My point is I can get the whole setup for less than $200 used and as long as all the parts are there it will run, and if it doesn't any mechanic anywhere you go can fix it, not that I would get help from a mechanic, but in general...While haven't used one, if I'm not mistaken the fitech and sniper setups are not that much different than the oem TBI setup. Other than the 4bbl throttle body and 4 injectors vs 2 on a stock setup. They both use similar sensors to make it run, but rather than needing an oem type scan tool to monitor data they use a held device. One other difference is if you get a setup that does not control timing it's actually less complex than the oem setup.
Either way you slice it, both setups can fail. It comes down to what you want to put up with.

$200 if there's no issues, maybe. Usually if they get pulled, at least one sensor is junk. That's been my experience in all the used units I've gotten so far.My point is I can get the whole setup for less than $200 used and as long as all the parts are there it will run, and if it doesn't any mechanic anywhere you go can fix it, not that I would get help from a mechanic, but in general...![]()
I’ve known several guys who have gone this route. They are all OCD. So I’m sure their extra special lovin is part of the successThis is really unfortunate---about the trouble people are having with aftermarket kits.
i wonder, do the guys that build it from scratch----i.e., megasquirt have better results?

The big issue is you are either limited to a stock TBI engine, which is a dog, especially in a 6k truck with 37s and 4.10s and at 10,000'
Or you have to start spending money on the throttle body and chip to feed a modified engine and end up spending what the entry level kits cost
Most guys have some power adders under the hood so retuning a stock Prom gets expensive
Ask me why I know
But I get the part about getting stock replacement parts anywhere. No denying that

That’s literally my dealer telling me to drop the habitGo with TBI and stick with stock parts/performance..

Me? OCD? Nah....ok you’re right. Haha!I’ve known several guys who have gone this route. They are all OCD. So I’m sure their extra special lovin is part of the success
I looked at building an ECM for the mega squirt, and it was well over $400 for just the ECM that you could tune via laptop
Last chip I had made was $200 for a production ECM
I agree with the limitations of an old design but it is replacing an even older carb.Go with TBI and stick with stock parts/performance.
No denying that statement at all. But let's keep this in mind the last TBI GM truck put on the road was 1995 and was based on technology brought out in 1987. It has zero ability to adjust itself for any modifications. Most likely that $200 take off system needs work. But if you don't want or need performance beyond the stock setup there is no doubt they are a solid basic system. The key to the modern stuff is the computing power packed into that little box and it's ability to do two main things. It can adjust on the fly with modifications and allow for manual adjustments via a simple interface that does not require burning proms.
I'm not saying they are perfect either, but when it comes to adjustability and allowance for modifications the newer technology is smarter to use. It's still a basic TBI system that any mechanic should still be able to diagnose and work on. It's no harder to work on than a stock TBI as far as the nuts and bolts go.
Your cam and heads are very close to mine. It didn’t like the aftermarket chip in the TBI muchthe reason I went with fitech instead of stock tbi is eddy heads 60899 eddy cam 7102 and air gap intake 350 bored 40 over . my engine is far from stock
