flushing my power steering

Btw gloss black looks hella secksy on K5s, I feel the way about that like a lot do about flat black. Especially if the topper is sanded down and the same.

Thanks, I agree. Although my topper is finished with that same glossy bedliner stuff, and looks awesome, I think.

Can't wait to drive this thing again. Still needs lots. Tomorrow I will do the power steering flush. I also have to go to the local parts store and pick up a new cotter pin for the Castle nut.

Yes! the nut that looks like a castle!

Well I can only thread it on so far and the bolt keeps on spinning. I was thinking that the end of the bolt (in the drag link end) came dislodged or something..

so there is no way of locking the stud so it doesn't spin anymore?

I am not a mechanic but I've managed pretty good until now. I'll keep messing with it to see if I can figure something out.

Please if you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!! :waytogo:

Of course you use the giant tuning fork tool to dislodge the drag link end from the arm -- you didn't put the nut on and then hammer it, right? :D If you do that, the threads will get bunged even though you were hammering on the nut, and you're in deep doo-doo.

Visegrips might hold the stud, but they'll also score its surface which you want to maintain. Best bet is to push it up from underneath, as mentioned with e.g. floor jack.

The stud should go all the way up through the arm and then sort of friction fit into place; if it's greasy, clean it off with a rag, and get it in tight before you go threading the nut on.

If the threads did get bunged (by hammer use or whatever), post up and we'll walk you through the options.

i use a c clamp to put pressure on the link and lodge it to the inside.but i see you figured out something.

I tried that but couldn't get it to work, only a 4" C clamp though, maybe I needed a different one.

My idea with the floor jack was quick. Just a block and jack it up against the drag-link. Done deal. No spinning stud.

Did the flush with 2 litres of fresh fluid.

Last bit was still a bit foamy. Oh well only 1 litre left. Going to top it up and bleed it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I can take her for a test drive

If it's foamy it means you let the resivoir go low/empty as you were filling it. Just let it settle for a while and top it off and bleed more. It'll be fine.

well. everything went fine and put together properly BUT still having the same steering problem as before

will update in my other thread

Thanks for your help on the flush and the steering stuff everyone, without you I would have been lost :waytogo:
