reason for rough country HATE is easy . last few IFS lift kits i did before i stopped doing there brand was they down graded the hardware size over factory left out parts they said were not needed yet every other kit brand includes it . and last a guy i did a lift swap for had a 6" all spring kit and we swapped it for a set of tuff country hd springs and flip in the rear on 3/4 ton 56" springs and all he said after the drive home was he should of let me do that swap years ago . he drives it a lot more these day from the ride quality difference .
but yes as you said there is LOVE and HATE for each and every brand out there . . . . and on here compared to most forums we discus the good / bad like BROTHERS and in the end we let the majority rule and also its your rig and your money spend it wisely .

Did a deep clean in my garage. Cleaned out my fathers old machinists tool box. Not sure of the vintage but it’s an old Remline box serial# R6313. Thought it was a cool piece.

Found a couple photos inside my dad accidentally left behind when he moved. I inherited a few of his pieces to make his move down south easier on the old man.

my old boss one night we were talking of old weird vehicles he had or worked on and i described my dads old 69 or 70 gmc ...... he said wait a min ...... come back from the basement and had a small box of pictures from the 70's . . . . he said was this it ? ........ i said yell yes . ! ! i never had good pics of the truck in the clean non rusted out years . he gave me 3 pics he had . he had painted it for the original owner wayyyyy back in the day .
i still have the trucks hood as my shop awning to the entry door and the front bumper .

Just got off the phone with my pops and I sent him pics of what I found. He told me everything. The box is from the 60’s he thinks. He has two others just like it still “in similar condition” his words. He’s getting to old to work on cars now and I love finding things like this. My grandma and grandpa documented everything from their lives and my early life. All the cars they built etc., love all those memories.

Cylinder #6 the marks measured at 3.48. Thinking at some point the block was sitting with that cylinder down for a long time sometime in its life. Being that low in the bore I don’t see it being much of an issue. It ran fine before. So I told him to get it together the way she is. He has another block already 060 over he’ll sell me just sitting in the shop as well. Or I’ll bring him another block to get punched 030 worst case scenario.
I don’t think it will be much of an issue. This wasn’t the cylinder that had water from the blown head gasket either which was his major concern.

hell my 500cc 2 stroke engine has more ugly stuff than this and runs good after sitting for over 6 years no run or even kick over .

It didn’t smoke at all so I’m not worried. I’ll compression test it once it’s dropped in. Being so low in the stroke I don’t see it making much of a difference. I didn’t even notice it when I took the heads off because even with the 3.75 stroke the piston still covers it.
He showed me another cylinder that looks identical on an engine that had a rats nest in the cylinder bore. Maybe it’s the mouse pisses ammonia that caused the ring to mar the cylinder wall?
WE had engines we dismantled at the junkyard that had mice nests in the cylinders--more than one had their urine make deep pitting on the cylinder walls,that went right thru to the water jacket!...stuff is corrosive as battery acid..
That’s kinda what I figured.
Either way this wasn’t the cylinder that gave me issues so I’m thinking it’ll be fine. If not oh well. Pull it out again and see what I can do.
Will have the motor back Thursday or Friday. Just helped put the cam and crank in.

Just got off the phone with my cousin. Motor is done. Picking it up tomorrow. We’re going to prime and set the 0 there at the shop.
My short term goal is to have the motor in by Saturday afternoon after attaching the accessories and water pump etc., etc.,
I still need to pick up bolts long enough for the clam shells and the 4x4 transmission brace brackets.
Also, need to pick up some 1/4 threaded rod to make some valve cover studs. Going to run two sets of gaskets to clear my roller rockers.
Should be road ready by thanksgiving weekend.
My wife is dreading the motor being here because she knows I’m spending all day in the shop when I get home from work from now on until the unseeable future
