Frankenliner build thread. Up for sale.

sweet!
I'm planning on being there this year. don't know if I'll be trail ready (maybe fins 'n things lol), but at least I'll be able to check out all the cool rigs and people.

So I have been working on this thing daily. Not going well. Maybe too big of a project. Have had many issues. Most really small, but enough to not let stuff work.

Finally got it to the point that I could drive the car on. Bought my wife a 2006 Malibu with 46K on it. Really clean car. So I tried to load it today. Wont back up the ramps. Not enough horse power. Engine runs to 2800 rpm and it won't go up. So I turn it around to drive it on forward. Got to the middle ramp and started spinning the tires. Sliding sideways is not good. Just won't go up.

So I went and bought an 8k winch to suck it on with. I am tired of working on this thing.

So here's how I look at it....

The Malibu needs some BFG AT's, some lower gears and a detroit.

OR

Time for a big diesel pusher RV pulling a no hassle stock off the lot stacker trailer with the Malibu on top and the mobile shop/Jimmy on the bottom.

Oh and make sure you hit the lotto tonight. :D

The thing spun both tires on dimple died tread plates. So the Detroit was working. It has electronic reaction control of some kind. Was just too sketchy, so I figured I would not push my luck. Winch will be on tomorrow. So I will try again. And it will probably a little more controlled.

My trailer has a pretty good slant at the back plus I have some 5'+ long ramps so it's a slight enough grade a car could even get up it without high centering. The ramps are square tube with a pretty "coarse" expanded metal welded on top and I have to put my truck in 4wd to get up them. :)
If it's just in 2wd with street pressure and I go up it'll get the front end on then sit there and just spin the back tires half way up the ramp.

Looks stupid as heck, a truck on 40's with a doubler and locked front and rear but I can't get on the stupid slippery trailer. :D

What about hitting it with some kind of traction enhancement feature. Like paint with course sand mixed in like they do for diving boards or skate board tape or some kind of roll on Berliner with extra sand mixed in so it's nice and grippy textured

I think getting a winch is the best idea. I never see any of those flatbed tow truck drivers actually drive a vehicle on, they always winch it up. I assume it's because they have seen too many cars slide right off the side...

It's always better to do it right and be safe when working with 4,000 pounds of metal that rolls around on rubber wheels.

I have spent the last couple of weeks removing surface rust and paint, and rolling on bed liner. Thought it would help with traction plus seal the metal. 1 out 2 ain't bad.

Starting paint

Did not get pictures before I started.

Right side ready for final primer.

Hood previous damage. Had a piece of aluminum riveted over it.

Fill piece for the hole. It originally had an opening. I am filling it in.

That is what I would do. For what you do with that Freightshaker, it will never miss the airflow....

Paints done. And 120 polished stainless button head Allen bolts.

I looked into that also. By the time I have somebody pull the wheels, dismount and remount the tires, then reinstall, $600 alone. Plus the powder coating. I thought about just prepping and painting them black.
