Front leaf spring questions... *Weekend update*

I started working on a new shock setup this morning....

I'm using '99-'06 Ford Superduty Cast upper shock mounts.
The stud fits the shocks perfect if you slip out the metal sleeve.

I just have to whack the factory brackets off and figure out where I want to bolt up the new towers.
I'll post more pics when I finish.

Looking at the pic, you have a 4" drop draglink and a raised steering arm with a 4" lift. do you have any steering issues ?

I noticed a few posts up you commented about removing the front d-shaft spacer. Good. I saw your shaft doesn't have much slack now. You better remove that spacer before you do any excursions anywhere because if you don't and the truck flexes down good, you're gonna shear the t-case adaptor in half or even send the front d-shaft back into the t-case and blow it up.

No lie. I've seen it happen before.

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I'll have time to work on that after I get the shocks mounted up. I have a major leak coming from the front output so I need to take a look at it and when I put the front shaft back in I'll ditch the spacer.

 Did you read the thread? I'm in the process of changing my front suspension and steering. When I had an 8" lift it was fine... it's no x-over but it was tight and got the job done.
I'm in the process of fixing it.

Uhhh, man you should have spoken up if you wanted them. A couple of them are in one piece but others I cut up as I went to give myself enough room to get the grinder in there.

Yeah, I guess I just read slow:D Oh well. I wouldn't have wanted to give you any more work anyway;)

I just wrapped up the driver's side. This is the absolute longest setup I could squeeze out of it while maintaining a good bite on the frame and not running into the steering shaft or firewall but I think it'll be fine.
It gives me 6" of up-travel and 8" of droop. I'll make a little spacer for the bump stop so it hits a little before the shocks bottom out but honestly I think if I get 6" of up-travel out of them I'll be hitting the tires and have no steering so it's the least of my worries.

Oh and yeah, it does clear the draglink. :)

I got a little distracted tonight but managed to get the passenger side finished up too and took it for a test ride around the block and it rides like a caddy compared to before. Getting the shocks on made a bigger difference than I thought they would.

Couple pics...

I'll try to make some time to mess with the steering this week but it might have to wait until next weekend. My plan is to pop that straight draglink I got from chevysmithz71 on and see how everything looks. If it works I'll rebuild it and be ready to go. If not I'll order up that drop pitman arm from Skyjacker.

Looks good. I like the angle on the towers and where you told me you were mounting them. Very Clean. Rides nice HUH??
If you're worried about the springs flattening out you can always have one of my overloads and pick through my spring pill for maybe one more to add in.

I could always add one of the leaves I pulled out back in if need-be. But honestly I think I'll end up doing at least 52's in the near future with the DIY4X bracket so I'll just let them be and see what happens.
