Full body crew cab crawler

47's are super cool but I hope you have fancy knuckles and RCV axles.
No fancy knuckles yet when I'm done I'd like to round up the parts to do a 14bolt steer axle guy I know build them weekly
 
So now we have a motor in place tires picked out tires weren't present till the suspension was done but we had to make a few decisions on ride height coilover length is all not decided but we figure 4-6 inches of up travel so we built the tabs you see hanging from the frame to the axles at roughly that height then we began to lay out the from suspension first I choose a double triangulate suspension to use for my build I used a barnes 4wd kit front and rear with 1.25 heim now thus is a big rig so I wanted it stout I used 2 inch .250 wall dom tube for my lower links and 1.75 .120 wall dom tube for my uppers same front and rear so first issue was getting enough side angle on the uppers to keep the axle where it belongs going inside the frame rails so I went against the grain and out board my uppers giving good angle but also keeping the oil pan clear of trouble so as you see there is white pipe I used that for mock up it's cheaper than cutting that dom and having it wrong I also don't have a picture of it but you cab flex one end to the frame the other to the ground and never bind up

So now with the front done and what was suppose to be hard we move to the rear but as I find out my drive shaft became an issue it landed right where the brackets needed to be so we did some thinking and decided to run a carrier bearing in it this helped in a few ways one is the lowest part of my frame at ride height is 30 inches now with the shaft being flat to the carrier bearing I can put a beefy skid plate on the belly and also keeping my drive shaft out of harm's way all the rear is the same material add front was little different bracket kit as well

View attachment 213705 View attachment 213706 View attachment 213705 View attachment 213706 View attachment 213707 So the next step was actually not planned we intended to keep the frame flat with no notches but we found between the front and rear body mount there is about a 7 inch differences so we began having the frame little by little matching the sides the best we could



So I forgot a part here with the frame build after it was done and we liked it I had fish plates but for all the cuts made fit inside and out and welded them on

So in most of my post you'll notice I say we as I stated before I'm a heavy haul truck driver so I brought my good friend Dan Merritt into my project Dan does any of the fab work and welding you see hrs spent many hours him his wife and son dylan have all been part of this project Amy for always allowing Dan to come down she usually comes also and dylan does about anything we come up with he stripped the cab and helps hold pieces being welded on with out them and few others this wouldn't be possible
 
So now we have suspension in place let's add some paint to the links I wanted them to stand out so I went with a green powder coat as shown

So now we can talk about the cab when I started the project I really liked the looks of the off-road design cousin willard crew cab do I wanted to boat side mine similar but again the custom frame made this easier and letting us work with a better start surface what we did was cut the rockers out first and placed a piece of the frame material in place and start from there then we added some braces from the frame to the cab piece which we'll end up getting plate steel added to it

So now with everything how we like it we can start to disassemble to go thru everything get the gears in the rears and such fix the bottom of cab rust and dosage welding out the frame

Nice I love it. Badass build! So is the cab gonna be solid to the frame with the rockers/boatsiding or still have bushings?

We have talked about it a few ways were not really sure at this point we thought about bolting but roll cage has to be welded either way

I have done it both ways. Just make it a unibody. It's easier more solid and actually doesn't transmit hardly any vibration.........at least in an off road truck.

^ This. I solid mounted mine and on an offroad only rig...I didn't notice a difference at all with vibrations.

Man, this is a solid build so far. I can't wait to see it on those LTB's. I say just run the 60 as long as you can until it breaks, then do your front steer 14bff you were talking about.

Also, that shop looks freaking bitchin...pics of that too please?? :thumb:
