If the worst thing happen I have my towbar closeI wondered how long before someone came up with the obvious about being able to steer the vehicle if a line broke and there was no spare to fix it.

The orbital valve we use has a relief valve in it that cracks at about 1800psi But the pump is pushin about 4.5GPMS. How much flow can you get outa a GM pump and still keep it reliable?
Can't be any worse then when this happens:

X2 and X 3 i lost 2 lukily in the street in front of my haouse and drive way i now havwe the xj shaft.
There are a bazillion unpleasant ways to disable your truck. I wouldn't make the hydro-assist vs. full hydro decision based only on which one you think you can break easier.

I agree, but i am suprised noone has brought up the fact that if full-hydro fails at speed on the street you will have zero steering. Atleast on the trail you prob wont be driving very fast.
Im not suggesting you go with assist, i'm just sayin.![]()
With full hydro, you will slowly lose steering power if you spring a leak in a steering line. If the pump goes out, you will still have steering; the steering valve will actually develop pressure when you turn the wheel.
There are lots of vehicles running down the road right now with full hydraulic steering, mostly medium duty trucks (trash trucks, some busses, etc.)
By the same right, if a draglink end fails on a mechanical steering setup you won't have any steering (and yes, that does happen).

That's plenty of steering power![]()

That it is... I'm surprised something didn't break with all that leverage applied to the steering![]()

Ok, im talked into the idea of full hydo but I'm gonna drive Gabes truck first. I am now trying to design a system with Kubota Tractor components that we buy from EATON. Hopefully I can get some parts from work.
