FYI:ORD's greasable bolts are worthless!

you guys grease stuff ??

seems like all I do is work on mine enough to make the grease last till the next time I have to work on it......

You're lucky if grease comes out both ends of the bushing. If the sleeve is tight, the only path is through the hole in the sleeve. Then the grease travels between the sleeve and the bushing. Once it has a good path to the outside world, there is little resistance to flow, but there may be lots of resistance everywhere else. You could pump a quart of grease through and it would just keep pouring out that same spot.

The drilled holes are an aid to lubrication, but not a complete solution by themselves. It probably doesn't matter for you Cali guys.

are we talking about greasable bolts or greasable bushings? it seems like they would grease differently based on how the bushing halves come together vs how the bolt sits inside the sleeve.

How many of you guys use a regular grease gun fitting on these?. Ord recommends using a needle fitting I believe to insert grease but I couldn't get that to work so I just used the regular one and tried to be careful not to pull out and zerks.

So how do you grease them if the fittings came out?

I may be mistaken but the zerks do not look like standard fittings. I think they are pressed in. I was curious about solutions for if they come out.

I had one come out I put one back in and it came out. So now when I lube d truck I just fill the hole. It was just that one. The others have taken some hits and still keep holding on. So I havent replaced it yet

Your not supposed to use a grease gun on ORD zerks, it snaps them off. Ask me how I know. Your supposed to use a needle type gun, and rotate the bolts every so often so you can grease the entire thing. They have worked great for me, no squeaks, and no bs. I just rotate them every so often, but maybe my luck is I dont use grease, I use antisieze instead.

I don't understand.:dunno:

My hiems have been on my links for 8 years now. No zerkes to grease with. Had the truck apart 6 months ago. Didn't have to cut one off or even replace one.:D
