GAS PRICES!! alternatives????

Well to be legal, lets see..... Diesel is 8lbs per gallon. A tanker can hold about 48000lbs.... thats 6000 gallons. At .14cents per gallon, thats $840. It'll take aprox 600 gallons to get down there and back. Thats $900 to get there and $42 to get back. Snacks would cost about $120 on the US side and $1.98 on the other side. I don't know... it looks feasible. :doah: :D

You forgot bribe money for the whole trip :D

The whole farce about this diesel and propane cost thing is its a by-product of making unleaded what happened to the days of cheaper diesel?

Well, at $2.609 or so here in Phoenix, and the fact i have to drive 30 miles each way to and from work, in a vehicle getting MAYBE 10 miles to the gallon,,,,, i hate to say it, but i'm about to give up driving this thing on a daily basis.

just put in $15 this morning, cause i was runnin late, and got home a bit ago, and need to put more in it again in the morning.

I cannot afford $15-20/day in fuel costs, JUST to go to work and back.

Now maybe if i was deiving around town looking at crackwhore hookers or something, wasting the fuel for a reason. like off roading, but not the simple drive to and from work.

Gonna have to break down and find something more fuel efficient.
 THIS SUCKS !!!!

i see you have a vehicle thats propane or gas compliant...how do you do this and how does the mpg compare between the two...

i thought they would only run on 1 or the other..

but according to your sig ur 1ton runs on either this is what i want to do to my wheeler...you have any pointers or informative articles for 1 to read...

where did you get the propane conversion?

One thing that I am rilly kicking my self on not getting this spring, a guy up the road from my work had a 66 chev truck solid but it was ugly. The truck had a 283/4-spd and was setup for duel fuel gas/pro had a big tank in the bed. Found out he sold it for like $400 :doah: now days I think it would be the cats ass

Diesel in Mexico is only 5.03 Pesos a liter. Depending on the exchange rate, it works out to $1.78 to $1.84 a gallon. I fill my 46 gal Transfer Flow and two 55 gal drums every trip down. Haven't had any problems crossing at Mexicali, Tecate or TJ. I figure I'm saving $1.25 x 150 Gals or $187.50 each trip.

Gas is cheap in Iraq..

I read online today gas costs 5 cents a gallon in Iraq! :eek1: :angry1: :angry1: ...and we cant get a drop of it... In Venuzuela its 72 cents a gallon..

I bet if we had all the diesel the military is burning in humvees and tanks our prices would be a lot lower...--- face it--the USA is getting screwed,---while we "save the world"--all the americans suffer!...

FYI The government here pays .85 for unleaded and .50 for diesel. The price we pay is that plus taxes. If the government cut the taxes on gasoline we would pay less. They set the price for you and me, not some foreign power.

Really???? We can't buy gas or diesel that cheap, even before taxes are added.

I supply several Govt. places and charge them more than $ .50 a gallon!!!!

The mileage of my 1-ton is about 7mph towing a trailer and driving around town last time I bought propane it was $1.39 which was a month or more ago. To run on gas I push a lever, closes the propane off and flick a switch, opens the gas fuel line. It takes a few moments to burn off the gas or propane when I switch it but that is it. The only problem that it has is doesn't get enough air at WOT on gas and runs real rich. It has a tube like thing inside the air cleaner that open and closes when you run on propane. The carb is a stock Quadrajet nothing done to it.

What did you pay for your conversion?

What kind of conversion did you do? Homemade or kit?

If I am remebering correctly, there are BIG differences between ethanol and alcohol. I think it has something to do with the octane ratings of them or something along those lines.

As far as why a very limited amount of vehicals can run E85: It has to do with emmisions. Manufactureers have to GUARENTEE that the vehical will still run at the same emmision levels withh alternative fuels and it does with gasoline. That is also why there are no companies that offer alternative fuel conversions.

Ethanol is alcohol (grain alcohol), but not to be confused with methanol, with is another kind of alcohol (wood alcohol). As for emissions levels, they are pretty universally lower with alcohol. Most of the emissions from gasoline that we fight with are almost nonexistant from ethanol.

There is more energy in a gallon of gas, so fuel economy is better on gas, but performance can be better with alcohol. It tolerates higher compression and faster ignition timing. One of the reasons E85 is available instead of pure ethanol is that people would drink it. That would be a cheap party.

The key is to have the ability to run on either fuel because you are likely to go places that don't have E85.

I'd like some more info on the propane conversion also. How many have done it?Who likes it and why or why not?Is there more than one type of conversion?

$2000/week in fuel costs in a semi? you are seriously getting VERY poor fuel mileage then, or buying it in Cali only...sheesh.
