I am getting ready to buy a gear and install package for my 1991 V3500 Crew Cab. My question is that 14-Bolts models go from 1973 to 1988, and then from 1989 to 1996. My 1991 14-Bolt should use the 1989 to 1996 install package, but my front Dana-60 (straight axle ) uses a 1973 to 1988 install package. Is there a difference in the 1973 to 1988 14-Bolt install package, and the 1989 to 1996 14-Bolt install package?

I have been buying gears for this crew cab.

1 of the pinion support bearings changed size . Otherwise the same kits unless 84-85 with weird support bearing inside the housing.

Since my 1991 V3500 is such an oddball I am going to have to buy an install kit for the 1988 to 1996 for my 14-bolt rear diff, and a 1973 to 1987 install kit for my front dana-60 diff.

The only thing oddball is the incorrect year range on the D60 kit as it should fit king pin axles through ‘91.

Even though the Dana-60 was offered up to 1991 in the GM V-series truck, no company lists an install package that goes up to 1991...only 1987.

I didn’t have that issue with mine but it’s been a while. Yukon, Spicer, ECGS and such either show kits for up to 91 or simply list them as “all” 60F for ‘67+. As long as a king pin GM 60 front is in the applications it’ll fit.

I only see koyo bearings. Did you get the master install kit with timkens

I got my ring gear and install kit about a week ago. I got a pretty good deal from ronsmachineservice.com. I got a USA Standard Gear 5:13 ring and pinion along with an install kit for my 1991 V3500 Crew Cab for $340. The install kit is a Yukon Gear kit with Timken bearings for an extra $20. Rons Machine Service also did me a solid by including new ring gear bolts with the install kit, which most gear companies do not include.

Are these actually decent Timkens? Last time I bought Timkens for a Ford 9" rear end, I got made in China bearings with HF level machining quality. I even called Timken to make sure someone at the parts store didn't do a box swap, and was told that many Timkens aren't actually made by Timken anymore..they're just reboxed imports.

i just got 2 axle bearings for a 2014 1500 silverado semi float rear and 1 was timken and other national . opened both boxes and koyo come out .

koyo fine . been factory installed for years now in our rear axles .

reason i was in it tho was a bad carrier bearing / race . but it had 135k miles on it . bearing kit fixed it and saved the gears .

I looked at the bearings. The large pinion bearing was made in India, and all the rest where made in the U.S.A.

I got a 14-bolt crush sleeve eliminator kit from East Coast Gear Supply (ECGS). I was looking at the Yukon kit, but everybody wanted $65 + $10 shipping for it. ECGS had a kit for $45 + $10 shipping. I decided to save myself $20, and bought the kit from ECGS.

Got this inch pound torque wrench to set my pinion bearing pre-load. It cost me $22 dollars + free shipping with my Prime account from Amazon.

I bought the gears for my front Dana-60. I got a set of gears again from https://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/. These guys have pretty good prices on gear and install pakages. I got a set of 5:13 to 1 Yukon gears, and install package for $320 + free shipping. I wanted to pop the extra $20 for the Timken bearings, but because of the supply chain shorteges Rons Machine service only had the Koyo bearings. They had no idea if when or ever the Timken bearings would ever be available so I just settled for what I could get...Koyo's. I have not had the time to install either my 5:13 gears for my 14-Bolt or my Dana-60, but now I have all of my gears ready to go when I do.
