Geronimo: 1959 Chevy Apache

1959 Chevy Apache long bed Fleetside with some modern stuff inside. Built for long trips
Not much to add. Closed on a house about 3 weeks ago so ive been busy moving all my stuff around and getting settled in. 2 weeks ago, the guy I bought the cab from texted me. Said he found a vintage slide in. He bought several trucks and had them shipped up from Texas. One of them is a 66 long bed Chevy that has a bed slide in on it that he doesn't want.

I'm waiting for more pictures (should have them later today) and a price. Hoping he doesn't want an absurd amount for it. These are the only pics I have so far .

Funny how many of these trucks had campers in them.

The double door thing is neat/interesting.

Not much action with this at all lately. The camper guy seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth. But one bit of good news. I sold the Green 1956 front clip that came with the truck. I prefer the quad headlights of the 58-59 trucks so I wasn't going to keep that single headlight clip anyways. Volo Auto Museum bought the clip and they are going to use part of it on their Tow Mater replica truck. I got $500 for the clip which is half of what I paid for the whole truck!

I contacted the company that sells the frame swap kit, EZ Chassis Swaps. We are all set to go. They will bring my kit with them to the Iola old car show and swap meet in early July. That way I don't have to pay shipping and handling.

I got my 52 dodge pretty much squared away for car show season. I brought my dads ford 9" axle into the garage. I need to go through that and clean it up, new brakes, and prime it before we start mocking it up for his 1931 Ford Model A.

Once that's out of my garage, its Apache time. My dad already started stripping studf off the 87 C10 chassis while its sitting at his house. In a few weeks we will transport the chassis over to my house so I can get started on it.

The frame swap company sent me a picture. It shows a customers truck on a square body chassis with stock suspension. Mine will definitely sit lower than this. I'm gonna start with 3.5" in the front and 4" in the back

3.5" & 4" is spindle & springs in the front and flip in the rear?

Latest update. Iola swap meet was last weekend. I picked up some inner front fenders for the apache and I picked up my chassis swap kit from the vendor.

But the bigger score happened the day before I left for the swap meet. I got this vintage bed topper for free!

A few weeks earlier, I scored some other great parts. I found these bed sides for sale on Craigslist. They are new old stock. The owners dad had them sitting in The Original boxes in a barn for 30+ years. One has a little rust hole because it was sitting in a water puddle

I also got a grill and surround that were in better shape than the one I picked up last year

Nice. Little more to do down there then up here. Close to the airport?

From what I've read so far, it seems like you are collecting parts/trucks and aren't afraid to drive a little bit to get to the good stuff. I had never even heard of this model until I saw your thread.

I did a search in my local area and was surprised to see how many apaches/parts are around here for sale. It's also the Northwest and most of these trucks stopped driving regularly long before salt was introduced(25+ years in some cases and they were parked in a barn), which greatly reduces the possibility of any real rot.

Any who, check these out, some are cheap and are whole trucks for less than a grand:

These are a little beyond my resto budget but might be worth it to you:

Hope this helps. Good luck on the build and keep us updated. A late 50's to mid 60's Chevy truck with cadillac styled bedsides/ and taillights is, in a word, very pimp.

Good hunting,
MMID

Thanks for the leads.

I got a guy driving up from Phoenix in a week or two. He buys and sells 50s & 60s GM trucks & parts. It just so happens that his dad lives about 15 minutes from my house. He's coming to visit and is bringing a pair of front fenders and some side mirrors for me.

I got the rear axle all finished for my dad's Model A hot rod & it's out of my garage. Got a big car show trip next week. So hopefully after that I can get the chassis to my house

Alright here we go. The cab has been moved to my house and so has the chassis. We pushed the chassis into my garage last night and I put it up on jack stands. Gonna strip it down so that it can go get sand blasted.

Also got some more much needed parts. The guy from Arizona came up to his dads house in Illinois. He brought a pair of front fenders for me and a pair of "West Coast" mirrors.

Where you having it sand blasted at?
There's a place in Wood Dale that my brother's body shop uses. I forgot the name. It's a powder coat shop, but my brother asked and they said $275-300 to just sand blast the frame

Cruising right along. Removed all the lines, rear axle, unnecessary body mounts, trans crossmember, rear suspension, random brackets, engine mounts, sway bar, and front brakes. 53 rivets removed.

Just need to remove the front suspension and this frame will be ready for sand blasting. I think I will take it in next week. Going to order up the front suspension components soon too.

Had to poke a little fun at my brother and his never ending project too.
