Geronimo: 1959 Chevy Apache

1959 Chevy Apache long bed Fleetside with some modern stuff inside. Built for long trips
Still looking into some of that. The drop spindles I'm going to get from CPP, 2.5" drop and they move the wheels in slightly. I'm getting 2" coils (not sure from where yet)

Looks like LMC is the only company that sells stock lower control arms, so I will probably get the uppers and lowers from them.

Brakes will be stock C10 stuff

EDIT: Although I should maybe consider the tube control arms from LMC its a $180 difference for the whole set

LMC tubular arms are CPP arms without the stickers. I don’t know which is cheaper. Stay away from drilled or slotted rotors. My upper arms have no camber adjustment, I think CPP made them too long. I have no shims and trying to find thinner washers to get the arms to tuck in more.

Maybe do a tubular lower, stock upper. I dunno.
If I did it again, I’d just go with a whole aftermarket front clip with R&P.

I will be gone this weekend for a car show/camping trip so I decided to wait on the sand blasting. I will drop the frame off Monday.

In the meantime I ordered a whole bunch of parts. 2.5" dropped modular spindles from CPP, 2" dropped coils and shocks. From LMC I got upper and lower control arms on the way plus new brake backing plates cause mine were rotted. I also got all the front brake parts from the local parts store.

I briefly looked up lowering parts for the rear, though I'm gonna wait a while on that. My rear leaf springs are shot, one side has a cracked leaf. So instead of flipping the rear axle for a 5-6" drop, I think I might order 4" lowered leaf springs and then use a longer rear shackle.

Frame is back and all coated in primer. Work got real busy last week so I didn't work on the frame at all. I have all the front end components now except for the sway bar and steering stuff. Just need to paint some of these parts and then I can get to installing. I'm hoping that by thanksgiving, the front will be done and then I can bolt some wheels on it, get the cab mounted and then start addressing the rear suspension.

And then something new showed up in my driveway last week. My girlfriend's friend was looking to sell this camper because he bought a bigger vintage camper. It had to leave his property ASAP so he's keeping it at my place while my girlfriend and I make payments on it. So next April it will be officially ours.

Its a 1959 Trotwood. Exterior was repainted at some point but the inside is nearly all original.

That will look cool being towed being towed behind your truck. Not sure I've seen any older than 70s models out here where I'm at.
Vintage campers are getting really popular in my area. We already camp at 3 different shows during the year. Two of which have "Vintage Only" camp areas. Many of our friends have vintage campers now. So next year we will finally be able to camp next to our friends and not be stuck out in the other camping areas.

I never really camped at any of the shows until I met my girlfriend. I always just made it a 1 day event and then went back home. But she has been camping for 8 years or so at some of these shows. She's tired of tent camping lol.

I think the camper will be used for the local stuff that we already do (within 3hr drive) and then we will use the sleeping space in the Apache bed for when we go do long distance trips

Front suspension and brakes are almost all finished. Enough to allow me to get wheels bolted back on and set it down on the ground. Still need to paint the calipers and tie up a few odds and ends.

Probably gonna take a short break till the end of the month. I need to get the steering parts and install those, just from the gear box to the tie rod ends for now. Then I would like to take the doors off the cab and bolt that on the frame before the snow gets here.

I received some Photoshop ideas from 2 members on the HAMB, a traditional hot rod and kustom message board.

Both are using the same wheels, its just different lighting. The 2nd one used the wrong exhaust tips, I plan to use the tips you see in the 1st pic.

I thought a green along these lines would look really good on a 50's gm truck....

I like the white on the cab. It needs it.

Took me awhile to find it, I was guessing your screen name wasn't the same. As mine is different over there too....

My photo editing skills aren't the greatest. But I took the camper shell and put it on the 1st pic.

Also tried it with the white roof. Not really feeling that combo

No progress lately. Too busy with setting up props and displays for a Halloween party at my house. Then last week one of my guys retired and the school hasn't hired anybody yet so I've been picking up the slack and working 12 hr days.

Ordered up steering parts though and ill get them this weekend. Tie rod ends, adjusting sleeves, gearbox, pitman arm, idler arm, etc.

Also got another photoshopped pic from a member on the HAMB. This one is my favorite so far and it just screams 1960s style.
