Getting 10 MPG, please help!

Move closer to work and stay home on the weekends, and watch the savings build.... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I still and always will drive the hell out of my blazer, I love the thing. I am just looking to get a little more, I have already considered the whole out of cal thing...gives me 10.5 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I think it may be time to hit up the plugs (been about 15k on them). Didnt think about the filter on t he 700r4 where is that located?...dont I have to remove the pan to get to it? Headers, well yes, that is on the aggenda after I get my gears, 14 bolt and 35's /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Was really kinda curious on what people have done to get a little extra bit since it is closing in on boat towing season and any extra bit helps.
Anyone try out those TB spacers, I was looking at the plastic one to keep the TB from heat soaking as quickly, but wasnt sure it it would help all that much....any results????
Think its time to hit up the parts store for plugs, etc.. to do a nice little tune up.

My first response to the title was, "Wow, you're getting 10 mpg, so are the rest of us, do you want a cookie?"

It sure does suck, doesn't it?

with My Banks Turboed 3/4 Tow Rig I am gettin 20mpg lol and once I drag raced a honda and WON! lol, once the turbo kicks in, I haul! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Whats your mileage on highway only miles? 10 sounds about right in town with 33's and 3.42's. Maybe a little tuning would help. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I just had my K5 professionally dyno tuned and they adjusted the carb and recurved the dist. I'm getting considerably better mileage now, I was getting about 7 in town and 10 or 11 on the highway before.

Not much to tune on the TBI that I know of, am I wrong? But deff a good idea. I get 10 total and alot of them are highway.

10mpg??? Come tune mine so I can upgrade to that kind of mileage!!!

[/ QUOTE ] Your right but I would give it a complete tune up, change the oxygen sensor, and make sure your injectors are spraying properly. Is your lockup in the torque converter working? I don't know what else to say...Maybe 10mpg is the nature of the beast. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yes I know my speedo is off, so add 1 or so mpg to what I have, that is not the question.
I replaced all the sensors that I could get my hands on about a year and a half ago in a round about search for an idol/off idol problem I had so I think they are still good. My plugs prob have a good 15k on them along with my Jacobs plug wires...think the wires should still be ok. Dist is new, cap is new, coil is new, and a few other goodies. I know this is the nature of these things, doesnt mean I have to just sit there and live with it....whats the fun in that /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Swap a 6.2 in place of the small block. I was getting 10-11 mpg with my 350 on 36" TSL's and no overdrive. I swapped in the 6.2 and the truck now gets 16-18 mpg on 40's...

You don't have to just sit there and take it, I didn't.

[/ QUOTE ] Your mileage will just go down if anything with a built motor.

the actual changing of the filter didn't have anything to do with my improvements...that's just what I was doing when I noticed that my torque converter solenoid was not mounted inside the transmission (700R4). It was just hanging loose inside. You have to take the pan off the transmission to get to it. While you've got the pan off checking that, you might as well change your filter. Pretty easy to do if you've never done it before.

OK so why not just build a Super Car like the Green Slime Corvette 427ci supercharged just under 800bhp and getting 28mpg Or the 1000hp Viper and getting 25-28 mpg.... the viper was in the Ulitmate street car challenge and the vette was in Hot Rod mag and was on the Power Tour.
I just drive which ever truck has gas in it b/c both get around the same mpg. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif somewhere around 10 it changes day to day

i was getting 8 with the same setup, except 3.73 gears. i swapped in 4.56 and now i get 12-14, i barely have to step on the gas to scoot around town, and i can accually use overdrive before i get to 80 mph!
