Glorified Grocery Getter Build- WARN Premiums and Dual Battery Mock Up and Boxes

Thanks, the hubby thinks so, wait you mean the burb :wink1:, still thanks. I've been doing some more work on the headliner since my last post. Here's a pic of the last layer of insulation that is installed above the headliner.

So now I have three layers of Second Skin Audio insulation total, recap

damplifier pro- butyl based mat with aluminum layer

spectrum firewall- ceramic coating

heatwave- pressed natural fiber with another foil layer

Next I got started on the headliner board.

Here's the before

Then here's all of the fabric and half the rotten foam backing removed

The easiest way I found to remove the foam and have a clean surface for the new headliner is to use a 6" drywall knife to scrape the board. Once it was clean I decided to add a little bling and made a cardboard bowtie and mounted it to the headliner board, then I applied glue to both sides, put them together and rolled them with a wooden roller to ensure a long lasting bond. Here's the "bling" (or at least as bling as I get) What do ya think?

that looks sweet. I am gonna start stripping my burb this weekend, so i'll pm you when I get the parts off you want. From the looks of things, you've been busy. that a/c piece for the rear is gonna look sweet.

YEAH!! All done with the headliner. It's installed with all the trim. Here's some pics of the finished product.

I'm very happy with it. Drove into town today, and believe it or not insulating the roof made it a lot quieter. I even noticed some new rattles that used to be covered up by background noise. I'll have to pull out the decibel meter to find out just how much. I can't wait to insulate the floorboards, then maybe I'll be able to talk to people in the second and third row w/o yelling. BTW, I plan to take the trim back down in a couple of months and hit it all with some grey herculiner. Wish I could have done it while it was apart, but dropped too much cash on the suspension to do it now. Oh, well. I'm going to be very good at taking apart the interior by the time it's all said and done.

Also, been painting my DIY4X suspension parts. First I knocked off some of the splatter. Then I hit 'em with a couple coats of auto primer. Next came grey for the Front Uppoer shackle mounts and shackle flip, and dark blue for the shackles. Turned out pretty nice, but I had a hard time with the shackles fish eyeing a little. Had to sand 'em down and do another coat.

The blue is actually a lot darker than in the pics. A dark navy.

The headliner looks awesome Kristie! The bowtie is a nice touch... And I'd bet the insulation makes a huge difference...

Truck should look great with the Toys from Kert...

Btw, damp towel/dry toweling your parts with denatured alcohol will help prevent fisheyes...

We have the same interior. Makes me wish I hadn't just ripped the headliner and overhead out and thrown em away. Looks real good.

What glue and fabric did you use? And did you re-foam it or just go strait fabric to cardbord? Looks great BTW

Thanks, I used an OEM type headliner fabric that already has a foam backing and 3M Super Trim Adhesive (yellow). The adhesive was the expensive part @ $13.50 pre can, and I used three and a half cans. IIRC the fabric was only $7 a yard. I got both at a local upholstry store called Mesa Sales. I believe they will ship if you call them. Their web address is mesasales.net . I'd check around local first though, as I'm sure shipping could get pricey since the fabric is 48" wide and would crease if it was folded for shipping. Any other questions let me know.

Well, I've been sick all week and it's killing me that I didn't get to put my suspension on yet. :( But I felt a little better today, so I finished putting my dash back together and fixed my loose glove box latch and put that back on. That's when I realized I haven't posted pics of my flat black bezel and dash trim. It used to be fake wood grain, but it was faded and a PO had covered it with a carbon fiber sticker, so I took all of that off, used some plastic spray paint and flat black spray paint to give it a face lift.

When I get done with the suspension I plan to relocate my deck into the center console and take the air vent out of the dash bezel (air barely makes it there anyway). The I'll make some plates for light switches and a tranny temp gauge.

Well, life throws some curves and plans change so here’s an update. Our office which was suppose to b done last fall is still on hold, and I’m dumping $500 into my A/C today, so something has to give. Here’s the new plan for a wheel/tire combo to trim the fat:

285/75R16 Pro Comp Mud Terrains
16x10 8-6.5 Rockcrawler Series 51

Not exactly what I wanted, but a solid combo, and it will save almost $900. It will also be less of a dog with my 3.73 gears, and I can wait a little longer to trim the fenders, so it’s not all bad. ;)

On the bright side, the suspension is definitely going in this Fri & Sat, so I’ll have some progress to post come Sunday. :D

Sorry to hear things aren't working the way you wanted. I know how that goes, and it really sucks. Keep the pics comming.

Yeah, looks like I'll have to go cheap shocks for now, too. :( Oh well, that'll give me time to get some furd shock towers for the front and diy4x mount for the back, and work out my height before I lock myself into expensive shocks.
Good to hear someone else likes the pro comp muds. I can't wait to see how they handle on and off road. Hey, we run almost the same setup, minus the tranny. :)

Just read the detail and, well, wow! You've done a great job and it all looks terrific; the headliner, dash...very professional.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Jason
