Good deal?

I really like the truck op is looking at and wouldn’t hesitate to snatch one up around my area if they weren’t grossly overpriced at the moment. I think a lot about a Cummins swap for my crew cab and it’s only because it seems easiest way to get a diesel with decent power vs money input. If the duramax swap could compare in dollars it would be my choice but the used engine alone eats up the swap budget.
I suspect that's the reason why you don't see alot of 7.3 swaps. The trucks don't come in the crappy dodge wrapper so they hold value better. Hence not making it worth it to swap.

the model years of super duty had nothing to do with the model year of the powerstroke...

The 7.3 IDI went turbo 94 then was replaced with the power stroke in mid 94
I agree with you. I was making that point cuz I thought that’s what iceman May have been thinking of instead of the PStroke

As far as the Cummins go fuel pin is still a mod.

I never said the Cummins wasn't a good engine, simply stating that it's not in its own stratosphere. Like some cummins thumpers want you to think.

all my own personal judgments come from actually using my truck and not just using it as a car. I figured my comments would the ruffle some feathers.

Fair enough. You didn’t say mods didn’t count you just said the Cummins wasn’t a powerhouse. The engine was but had to be detuned to help the glass transmission and pos dodge survive it. But they could easily make power.

but this is rapidly getting off the rails for a conversation about whether or not to buy that ford lol.

. I think across the board the answer is yes.

Gotcha. There is lots of confusion. People thinking the pstroke only rolling out with the new body styles.

I used to have a co-worker with a 97 pstroke he bought new with only 40,xxx miles. He basically only drove it in summer. I really wanted that truck, even though it was an extended cab short box and not the manly single cab long box.

97s are considered the “grail” trucks among the obs guys cuz it was the best power train configuration in the obs fords when they were still “trucks”. Not that I ever fell in with that.
One of my buddies in high school daily’d an old farm truck 6.9 slow as shit but man it was cool at the time. But he was the kinda guy that could drive he speed limit every where and he happy. Even when he got a new rig. I never could.

I was just kinda making an apples to apples comparison of stock engines.
That's all I really know anyway. I towed with a pumped 24 valve that was turned up and a chipped 7.3ps.
They were roughly the same. But all things considered I have driven all these trucks working on farms. Pulling hay, corn and tractors. All generally stock.

Buddy's dad still has a 6.9. he brags like it's something. Lol. Old boat anchor imo.

So the Ford guys feel the way about the 99 super dutys like most chevy guys feel about the gmt400. Interesting.
I actually like the Early super dutys.

If it still makes noise when you turn the key it counts. My Chevy hasn’t started in over a year. And it’s a venerated sbc!
Lol!

He spent something like 9k to rebuild that 6.9 back in like 2004-05..... The truck still had a decent body on it at that time so I guess he figured it was worth it.

All the excursion specific parts are discontinued. Like the rattle in the rear door latches. Cant get new ones. That drives me crazy in them.
I'm less then confident I'll be able to make a deal. A relatively rust-free 7.3 excursion 4 x 4 and this Market is 20K. Regardless of miles. My budget would be 10-12k.
so, even while prices are coming down, I have to think that this one being in my budget or under is got to have some pretty legit problems underneath.

I use my Cummins as cars :rotfl:

Inspect the oil pan good, they like to rot and it requires pulling the cab up to replace it...other than that the older 7.3's were pretty tough and I've seen a few in shuttle buses with 500K on them still running good..

A friend had a 1996 F-250 4x4 with a 7.3 he sold ,I was tempted to buy it for $2000,but it was pretty crusty in places underneath..someone else got it for $2600 after he posted it on facebook marketplace..

Nope. Power stroke 7.3 came in mid 94. The 7.3 idi was replaced. I've lusted over one of these to long to be wrong. The 6.9 idi became the the 7.3 idi but it was phased out in for the international t444E in the mid 94 model year. 7.3 idi power stroke shares the same cubic inch but that's it. Completely different engines.
Sorry, his post further down saying it's a 92 confused me.
Looking at the post again it looks like he's talking about his daily driver.
My bad.
Definitely this 96 I would be jumping on it at $2200
