Got my dream!

Very true. I've seen a number of "American" vehicles overseas with different model or trim designations that weren't common or were used differently over here.

I think that at least some of the k5's are labeled as "v10" when looking for parts. The "10" would most likely mean 1/2 ton and the "v" would be the body.

There are a number of flowmasters to choose from. I had a 50 series on my 79 c20 pickup (built 385 stroker engine, small 268/278 advertised cam-no real noticable lope to it) with headers, 3" cat, and single 3" pipe. It wasn't aggressive enough and sounded too sporty. The original 40 series was louder and deeper. Then I removed the tail pipe and moved the muffler closer to the cat. This sounded like a muscle car rolling up. People loved it, and it sounded cool, but it was very loud inside and I drive 2+ hours per day. I now have the super 44 with a new 3" cat and mandrel bent tail pipe. It sounds great and can be slightly loud inside when you get on it, but for most driving, it is not annoying with the windows rolled up. From the outside it sounds very deep and powerful. People always want to race me on the streets because they think I am nailing the throttle off a stop, when really, I am hardley working the engine and only using maybe a quarter of the throttle. I think the super 44 is the best compromise for this truck. I would have the old 40 still if I didn't drive very far.

On my 88 K5 with a stock 350, I have the flowmaster 70 series with a cat and tail pipe. I like this muffler because it is not anoying from the inside, but it can still be heard, and on the outside its somewhat quiet, but has a great american muscle sound to it. The sound isn't as smooth as some of the others, and I like that.

The flowmaster 80 series sounds horrible. it is a dual outlet design for something like the 97 trans am that my brother had. It was loud inside and out, but had an artificial sound to it. I think it made the car louder than straight pipes. It reminds me of the rice burner "pissed off bumble bee" sound. It made the exhaust sound worse than not having a muffler.

You might get away with a 50 series muffler on a stock 350 with a tail pipe, but the 70 series should be an even safer bet without the stupid sound of a stock or quiet muffler.

88-91 K5's, Suburbans, and crewcabs are the R/V series as GM wanted to call the new IFS fullsizes the C/K series. Those years K5's are actually V10's. That's what my paperwork all says for the '89.

Actually, 1987's are as well, aren't they? My 1985 K5 Blazer, says K10 right on the registrastion.

My registration says I own a station wagon. That's just what some mook at the DMV/SoS put down.

Ok, so of what I understand I should get a 70 series muffler from Magnaflow, right?
Please help me with this issue, as I probably need to ship the parts here and install.

btw: I just installed my newly repaired radiator today, it is just awesome and so perfectly well made! Now my baby is back in the safe garage and waiting for winter to come up...

I'm really thinking of gettin' somethin' shipped here for the winter nights...as my muffler sound is just ****ty...really ****ty, no noise at all...

The Flowmaster 70 series has a nice sound and in my opinion, should not cause you any problems with with your government, but I don't know how much louder, if any, it will be than your current muffler. I have had some compiments on how it sounds though.

You should try to find video or audio of a chevy with a 70 series on the internet. I would put one up of my trucks, but I don't have a camera that would work. Maybe someone else on here could do a sample for you. I could try to record an mp3 of the sounds with my mp3 player and then upload it, if you can't find any others. Let me know if you need me to do that. I would just do it now, but I have a broken leg and have a hard time just getting around the house right now.

It sounds like you are in a similar situation to what mine was. I wanted a badass, aggressive, hear me a mile away sound, but I could not take the noise for 2-4 hours, 5 days a week as a daily driver. My truck with the super 44 can still be heard a quarter to a half mile away when I get on the gas near my neighborhood, and I live in a fairly busy city. When I had the 40 series with no tail pipe, my dad could still hear me about a mile away from our house.

Im guessing that the 70 series, on a stock 350 in my blazer, would not be real noticeable at 5 to 10 houses down the street from where I live. My family has not commented on how far away they can hear that truck.

I run a 70 series flowmaster with headers 3" single exhaust and a dump right after the muffler. It is a good street muffler and does not attract the attention of the law.
But
When you get on it... It sounds very healthy. Or so i have been told.

I went back and looked at your pics. It looks like you have an original cat on the exhaust. You might want to upgrade that as well, since they tend to plug up or fail to reduce emisions over time. A new high flow cat could help reduce pressure in the exhaust system and increase power. I think it may be possible for a new cat to allow more sound to travel through the system, but you should get a second opinion on that one. You would also have to check your local laws regarding cat. converters. I live in California, USA so we have some of the most strict laws around regarding this.

I do not know if you can get the 50 or 70 series mufflers in dual output. Check out http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/index.php?cat=1
They also have some samples on the web site.

wow great find my friend, And the price is amaizing, as for exhaust you could alwayse look into a borla tunable exhaust system so you can liven it up or tone it down as needed.

Thanks for the help. I checked the Flowmasters Webpage and the sound of the 70series comes near to the one I have in mind. Seems to be the right choice. And yes, there is an original catalysator underneath, I guess that one & the muffler are killing the sound right away.

...and hey, come to Switzerland, the laws here kill all the fun for cars, believe me!!! Only at American car meetings there are some loud rides around, but all of 'em wiht Dealer plates, so not immatriculated officialy, otherwise no way to run on the streets.

...and it can be loud, 'cause my daily ride to work is a Mercedes-Benz, as I work there as a car salesman, so always have a smooth & silent ride :)) But for sparetime i need something completely different!

I'll put some pics of my exhaust later on.

Very clean K5 :D

Even before you mentioned it, I thought that this one must have been rebuild not to long ago. Coming from Europe too, I know how hard it is finding a good truck from those years.

As for the K5/10:
I was always under the impression that the model series for all Blazers (4x4) start with K10516 (like Gamma's plate is showing) and the K10 with K107 followed by the digits for fleet- or stepside, long- or shortbed.

Wondering what's the meaning of 131.07 on that plate.

But again: Congrats for that find - price for a rig like that would be easy double here in germany.

44 series flowmaster is the best. Buddy has a glass packs and a 44 flowmaster. It's too much, imo, kinda looses that truck sound. But it's loud as hell. I run 44's and its hard to not give it that little extra gas to hear it roar. it makes me happy. :D
