after lots of trucks, i finally got my first blazer. gonna keep this as a street legal wheeler/ light woods machine.

it's an unmolested '79, so i get to do everything to it. it's supposed to have a jasper rebuilt engine in it with 50k. 10 bolt and 12 bolt. got some rust that i'll have to fix. it needs front fenders, and i just sold 2 nice sets of those for $70:doah:. at least it does have new rear springs. not sure what else, didn't look to close yet.

the best part------ IT'S GOT A 465 AND 205!!!:D

i figure on a 4"-6" front spring lift and shackle flip. probably throw in a spare 14bff i have and maybe a d44 that my buddy has with 4:10's . i have a d60 for it, but it's still in a complete truck that i don't know what were doing with yet, it'll end up with one, just not sure when. got a set of 35" boggers that may go on it.

anyway here's some pics. i'll get better ones tomorrow.

so how hard is it to drop the tank on these???

tank is pretty easy, but with rusty tank strap bolts, theyll probably break.
just PB blast like hell before you do it. im sure youre more aware of that than i am though.

just undo the two strap bolts and the hoses on the top of the tank and ease it down.

cool truck, never seen a mirror that rusty before :eek1:

both of them are like that. the rear floor is in good shape except where the left hinge attaches. the frame is very nice.

got a set of what looks like 4" maybe 6" front lift springs yesterday, have to go thru them and put in a few new/used leafs but they'll work. decided i'm going to put in a set of 4:56 1-tons in that we have laying around.

anybody know what degree shim is needed for 4" lift springs? i think it's 4 degrees.

i found a set of front rear spring hangers i kept, so i'm going to use them for the rear shackle flip. so i think i'm just gonna go with 56" springs on the rear while i have to tear it apart anyway.

kinda just rounding up loose parts this week. still need to order some stuff yet. dug out a set of 1-ton for it yesterday.

no pics, maybe tonight. got some parts in, bent x-over draglink, d60 springs and bushing, u-bolts, spring plates.

got the lift springs on last nite and the d60 half bolted up. got the front bumper off and may start to build the winch mount today. redrilled the d60 spring perches with holes 1-1/4" back to move the axle towards the front to get better firewall clearance.

got those stupid running boards off also. makes it look soooo much better.

no pics yet, maybe today.

got the d60 and welded 14bff in. shackle flip on rear in, kinda screwed up the shackle angle, thought it would sag more then it did. gonna run it as is and adjust if necessary or put in 56" springs to maybe fix it. we had the adjusted the pinion angle before we welded on the new spring perches and it just didn't look right and the pinion looked very vulnerable so we turned it up a bit and welded the perches on. not sure how much street use this is going to see, so it might not matter much.

looks like my blazer before i started aka rust all over don't let the rust intimidate you just cut out and patch one piece at a time. i hope you have your self a mig welder.

76 k5 :k5:

Dropping it is easy. Gravity does the work. Putting it back is a different story. The first time I did this it was 10 degrees outside, night time, still had a couple gallons of fuel in it, and no floor jack.... by myself.

Thats cool your first K5, i picked up my 9th a couple months ago a 76 factory 465/205. Check those motor/tranny mounts real good, if the cross shaft for the clutch linkeage isnt level between the frame and bell housing you better replace them or you will probably end up cracking or breaking the trans/t-case adapter sooner than later.

wow, never seen a adapter break like that, usually we just break the right side foot off. i do have a mount i need to replace on this one.

got the 14bff brakes done this weekend. this week i'll work on the d60 brakes.

i really gotta take my camera down to the garage.

i got alot of work done. was hoping to take it wheeling this weekend, but don't think it'll make it.

got the 8274 mounted and wired up. set it back in the grille about halfway, not pretty but it's strong and functional.

x2 on the pics. overall rust does not look that bad for a truck in these parts. i have seen and had much worse.:D
