Got my usb aldl cable. What now? *EDIT-NEW heated o2 data is up!!!.*

Hang on, in everything I have read, there is only one place for the resistor.
That is between "A" and "B" on this diagram.

BUT, the cable you bought will read data off of pins "M" or "E". They say some cars in your age range use pin "D".

Which your cable will not read.
If we can be sure that is the problem, then it should not be too hard to move a wire.

Please note, I'm flying blind here. I have never used one of these cables, since I don't have a vehicle that uses it.

I'm just going by what I get off the websites and my background of electronics engineering.

If anyone here has actually used one and knows of a trick, jump in.

UHH, this computer is running Vista......is the Windows firewall enabled by any chance?

I have had all kinds of interesting problems getting data into a computer with the firewall on. Lots of times it will log on, but no data shows up.
The stupid firewall will block data transfer with no notification at all sometimes.

NOTE: if you are online through a wireless connection or whatever, DO NOT disable the firewall as long as you are online.

I hear ya. The cable I bought has a movable resistor at the usb end which the instructions say to move depending on the vehicle type. If you look on aldlcable.com there is an instructions page that has the exact instructions I'm using and also the sketch of the movable resistor. I know that moving it will put it into self diagnostic mode cause I moved it there nd it worked. So I'm GUESSING that everything is wired right and ment for my truck. I think it has somethong to do with my laptop but I don't know.

Ah man! I just searched "firewall" in the little search tab in the "start menu" button. There is much complication in there! Ah if only i were a little more computer literate!

Once you get into the firewall section it should be pretty self explanitory. If you have any issues someone will chime in or give mudhog a yell.

Ok it seems that my firewall is actully off! Thats scary. So im guessing thats not it then. Speaking of which, i should probably go ahead and turn that back on...

Another thing that I just thought of that I can't remember how to do as its been a long time is the Com port that your aldl is using might actually be turned off or disabled. Might look into that.

I konw its probably not conducive to what im trying to do but i just turned firewall back on for the time being. I will turn it back off and cut the wireless conection when i go to try again. Actually im still out here in the truck!!!

Here are all of my settings in winALDL...I had the same problem you're having until I moved the settings around.

ECM type 1227747, 1228062
US is checked
COM port = COM3
BAUD = 4800

Once you click "datalogger" you need to make sure the window that pops up has sensor data checked then click start. The engine needs to be running obviously before you'll see ANY info at all.

To answer the earlier question, the truck has to be running to read most data. I have th same cable and I didn't move the resistor at all. If the error went away or you are getting some readings then the program is probably fine. Don't get carried away changing settings before you know for sure it's not working.

Dont know if it means anything or not, but each time i plug it in it says something like"new harware found" and asks what i want to do and i always click ask again later.
