Got my usb aldl cable. What now? *EDIT-NEW heated o2 data is up!!!.*

Switched to 4800 and still nothing,

The engine needs to be running obviously before you'll see ANY info at a

It wont even read TPS or anything with the truck just in "RUN" but not actually running?

So I think I may have installed it. And now y computer s being a dick about restarting! As I tho this from my phone...

Ok, finally got my computer back up and running... had to use system restore to take it back to yesterday. Now i have to try agian to do what i think was the install on the cable. Hope this time it dont freak the computer out!

Dang, go grab a samwitch and a dozen posts show up.

I don't Vista, so I'm not sure. But when it asks you what to do, is there any other options beside cancel and install?

I am thinking that there might be install options.

I know that several of the programs for reading the data have problems with Vista.

They recommend right clicking on the program, selecting properties, and then "run as XP SP2"

I was wondering if you could install as XP.

Hey if ya want I can help you trouble shoot it over the phone later when I get off, I build all my ALDL stuff but it doesn't matter what OS your running Windows likes to assign a different com port each time you plug a USB into the computer. In other words yesterday Com port 1 was correct but today it assigned com port 7 to the same USB plug in. Also some of the ALDL systems require a 12 volt source to read, if you got the one without a plug in you may be SOL for your application. Any ways this is 100 times more easy to explain on the phone.

IT WORKED!!! I will have to post the results tomorrow cause i dont have the time today to figure out how its done...

What did you do different?? Change anything?

I made a serial cable and had the same error once I plugged it in, too. I was using my docking station from my laptop to gain access to a serial port. I originally thought it wasn't picking the signal up through the dock but maybe there is a slight chance it will work.:dunno:

I just clicked the damn install button! plugged in the usb cable, then when it popped up with the new hardware found icon thing, i clicked search for drivers. It figured it out and all was well!

Now, while i was doing it my computer battery died... So hopefully the data is still logged and stored somewere on my computer and the battery dieing didnt somehow affect the storage. We'll see... Still gotta figure out where to go to retriev that info and send it all out to you guys and see what you think.

Dudes, Thank you! For all your help here. Katugly, Thanks for being willing to help over the phone! Very cool.

New spark plugs, batteries, and data readers all work better once they are installed......:D

So how do i find the text file that the data log session saved? Where does it save it?

If you did not click "save table" at the bottom of the winALDL screen it will not save and therefor you won't find it anywhere on your computer.

When it does get saved, it normally drops it in your c:/ drive root directory, iirc. Aka open up My Computer and open your hard drive. Should be a text file right there. If not there, look in the WinALDL program folder.

When you find it, post it up here or email it to me at Russell at ZieglerDigital dot ca and I'll take a boo!

Good luck man! Remember, more data is better! Start recording before you cold start the engine, and go for a normal drive. Then give her plenty of skinny pedal (power enrich), then lug it the best you can. You want to try and populate the whole VE table as best you can to see how your base programming looks. Idle time is also useful to make sure your minimum air is set properly.

Bummer... Oh well. I will try again tomorrow and not let the computer die! What will the file be saved as so that i know what to be looking for? Or when i click Save Table will it ask me where i want to save it?

I cant drive it on the street cause it has bad tags and no insurance. I can drive it up and down my road but its only about 100 yards long.

Hey, 100 yds is better than nothing...

BTW, to really screwup the cross posting, the oxy sensor is not going to give a useful reading until it 'lights off' at a certain temp.

So, if the engine was not warmed up, don't pay any attention to that reading until it is.

Its when it goes to closed loop that it starts listing to the o2 right?

When I click save it saves it in the winALDL folder.

Ok. I think i know where thats located.

Ok. I think i know where thats located.

Yes, closed loop means now the 02 sensor comes into play. It usually takes about 2 minutes for the system to go into closed loop operation.
